Macao Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches a self-service holds pickup system

In response to the SAR Government’s electronic service initiative and to provide more convenient measures for the public, the Macao Public Library, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), launched a self-service holds pickup system, so as to facilitate the public’s access to library resources and services. Currently, self-service holds pickup lockers are available at the Macao Central Library, the Taipa Library, the Seac Pai Van Library, the S. Lourenço Library and the Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Areia Preta Urban Park.


“Macao Light Festival 2021 – Travellers from Mars” lights up communities in December “Tourism + culture & creativity” revitalizes community tourism

Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), “Macao Light Festival 2021 – Travellers from Mars” will light up different communities across Macao Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane with light installations, interactive games and projection mapping shows from 4 December 2021 to 2 January 2022, weaving together “tourism + culture and creativity” for economic revival in communities, and filling the festive holidays with sparkling memories for residents and visitors.


UM, NYU Shanghai develop e-mental health mobile app for college students

The University of Macau (UM) and New York University Shanghai (NYU Shanghai) have jointly developed ‘Step by Step’, a mobile application for monitoring users’ mental health. Designed for university students with mental health issues, the mobile app is expected to provide reliable and effective self-help methods for its users. A follow-up project also kicked off today (18 November).


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for September 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 46% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reporting a year-on-year rise in receipts in September 2021, a growth of 14 percentage points from August; the corresponding proportions of Western Restaurants (58%) and Chinese Restaurants (63%) rose by 39 percentage points and 23 percentage points respectively. Meanwhile, the proportion of interviewed retailers recording a year-on-year sales rise in September increased by about 1 percentage point over the preceding month to 67%; the corresponding proportions of Department Stores (58%) and Adults’ Clothing Retailers (72%) grew by 8 percentage points and 7 percentage points from August respectively, while the shares of Supermarkets (44%) and Motor Vehicle Retailers (36%) fell by 11 percentage points and 9 percentage points. For the Business Performance Index (BPI) that reflects the trend of year-on-year changes in business receipts, the values for restaurants & similar establishments (56.3) and retail trade (71.2) were both higher than 50, implying that the business of these two industries in September fared better compared to the same month last year.


Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 3rd Quarter of 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending of visitors (excluding gaming expenses) boosted by 374.3% year-on-year to MOP4.80 billion in the third quarter of 2021, attributable to a surge of 143.6% in number of visitor arrivals and a growth of per-capita spending of visitors. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP4.22 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP580 million) soared by 481.3% and 102.8% year-on-year respectively. In the first three quarters of 2021, total spending of visitors amounted to MOP18.14 billion, an uplift of 199.3% year-on-year.


Government to optimise key social services and facilities to promote people’s wellbeing

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, assured legislators that the Government would do its utmost regarding the development of the Islands District Medical Complex, advancement of Macao as a smart city, and introduction of new flood prevention facilities, in a bid to improve the overall wellbeing of Macao residents.
