MGTO and IPIM keep promoting Macao in Greater Bay Area Bolstering Mainland residents’ confidence in travelling to Macao Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminars were held in Guangzhou and Dongguan

As the pandemic situation remains stable in the Mainland, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) are jointly carrying out promotional activities for the travel and MICE trade in various cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The two entities held Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminars in Guangzhou and Dongguan on 4 and 5 March respectively, joined by members of the travel and MICE trade from Macao, to familiarize their counterparts in both cities with Macao’s tourism situation and “tourism + MICE” initiatives, etc. The seminars also promoted Macao’s image as a healthy, safe and quality destination. Riding on the mission, MGTO attended the 81st Work Meeting of the Tourism Marketing Organization of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Guangzhou.


Gross domestic product for the 4th quarter and the whole year of 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 45.9% year-on-year in real terms in the fourth quarter of 2020, a smaller decline than in the preceding quarter (-63.8%). External demand recovered compared to the previous quarter; export of services dropped at a slower pace, by 61.0% year-on-year, with exports of gaming services and other tourism services falling by 70.3% and 48.9% respectively. Exports of goods surged by 245.2%. As regards domestic demand, investment dropped by 11.7% year-on-year; private consumption expenditure decreased by 10.2% whereas government final consumption expenditure rose by 8.4%.


Transport and communications statistics for January 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 244,854 as at end-January 2021, up by 1.6% year-on-year. Light automobiles (111,823) and heavy motorcycles (103,309) grew by 1.8% and 3.3% year-on-year respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in January surged by 39.9% year-on-year to 1,277, with that of heavy motorcycles (649) and light automobiles (584) increasing by 56.8% and 28.9% respectively. Number of traffic accidents in January totalled 1,198, which involved 396 persons injured.


Response from the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government will not issue any comment regarding acts by the Heritage Foundation, an organisation in the United States of America. The Government notes the foundation had since 2009 included Macao on its own initiatives on its Index of Economic Freedom.


Monetary and financial statistics – January 2021

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in January with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans increased from a month earlier.


Renowned painting and calligraphy artist Cui Ruzhuo visited Macao Polytechnic Institute

On 26 February 2021, the renowned painting and calligraphy artist Cui Ruzhuo visited the School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and was warmly welcomed by MPI President Im Sio Kei. The artist, as well as other guests of honour, discussed cordially and interacted with teachers and students in a lively atmosphere.


Additional Public Screenings of the Documentary “Interpretation of Images” on Macao’s Screening Industry are to be Launched

In order to raise the public awareness of Macao’s film and related industries and to enhance public understanding of the century-old history of Macao’s screening industry, theCultural Affairs Bureau produced a documentary entitled “Interpretation of Images” themed around the history of Macao’s cinemas and screening industry. Meanwhile, public screenings of the documentary are held at Cinematheque·Passion. As a result of the overwhelming response to the screenings, all time slots have been filled. Therefore, ten more public screenings will be held from March to May. All interested parties can register online from todayvia the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Activities Registration System”.


UM holds accounting career simulation fair to help high school students plan their careers

The Business Research and Training Centre (BRTC) under the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), University of Macau (UM), recently held an accounting career simulation fair as part of the celebratory events for the university’s 40th anniversary. The event aimed to help high school students in Macao to learn more about professional accounting qualifications they can pursue in college, so that they can plan their career paths in advance.


2021 Sands China Macao International 10K to be held in April

The 2021 Sands China Macao International 10K, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, will be held on 11 April. Two race categories will be held, namely 10K and Fun Run, with a total of 10,000 places available. Registration starts from 6 March for the 10K race and from 7 March for the Fun Run. A press conference was held today (3 March) by the Organizing Committee to announce the title sponsor, as well as introducing the race details and registration arrangements.


Applications for the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Academic Research Grant” is now open

Applications for the “Academic Research Grant”, launched by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) is now open, until 31 May.
