UM PhD student publishes articles in three renowned international journals
Riccardo Vecellio Segate, an Italian PhD candidate in the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Law (FLL), has published research articles in three well-known international journals in the past 18 months. The three journals are Columbia Journal of Asian Law, Art Antiquity and Law, and Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law.

Fourth designated hotel as venue of medical observation comes into service today

The Macao Special Administrative Region Government temporarily utilizes Grand Coloane Resort as the fourth hotel designated for medical observation starting from today (March 20). Grand Coloane Resort is situated in Coloane and has a total supply of 208 rooms.

Consumer price index (CPI) for February 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI (103.56) for February 2020 increased by 2.33% year-on-year, a slowdown of 0.65 percentage points from the growth in January 2020 (+2.98%). The increment was attributable to higher charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings as well as dearer prices of fresh pork, gasoline and Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

GGCT issues Level 2 Travel Alert for All Overseas countries/ territories

Given the recent situation of the novel coronavirus pneumonia around the world, the Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) after obtaining the opinion from the Health Bureau and based on Public Health considerations, has issued a Level 2 Travel Alert to All overseas countries/ territories:
The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) strongly urges Macao residents to avoid non-essential travel during this period. Macao residents who are currently overseas should pay more attention to local Government announcements, and take reference from the epidemic prevention guidelines issued by the Macau Health Bureau. Matilda The Musical and various activities cancelled due to the influence of the epidemic
Due to the global spread of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, the Cultural affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), after careful evaluation, announced the cancellation of a number of performances and “2020 Macao Library Week” that may generate crowd gathering, including the shows Matilda The Musical scheduled for next month. Disease-control steps for casinos continued as grace period ends for reopening
A 30-day grace period ends tomorrow (Friday) regarding the deadline for Macao casinos to reopen following a 15-day mandatory suspension – from 4 February to 19 February inclusive – to limit the spread in Macao of a novel coronavirus and its associated COVID-19 infection.

Class resumption for non-tertiary education schools will be postponed until further notice

Students’ health and safety has always been of the utmost concern of the authority when making decisions on class resumption. Due to the changes of the epidemic situation, it is decided to postpone the class resumption for non-tertiary education schools after having taken into consideration the opinions from the health departments as well as having continuously assessed the effects on the epidemic brought by the recent imported cases and the returnees from overseas. Previously, it was scheduled on 30th March that Form Six students could return to schools for revision and tutoring, and classes for other grades were scheduled to resume in phases from 13th April onwards. The SAR government will continue to monitor and analyse the epidemic development and adjust the class resumption preparatory plan based on scientific evidence and the professional opinions from the health departments. The specific date for resuming classes will be announced later according to the development of the epidemic.

Identification Services Bureau’s Director, Wong Pou Ieng, and Deputy Director, Chao Wai Ieng, took up new post
Wong Pou Ieng and Chao Wai Ieng took an oath to assume the position of Director and Deputy Director of the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) yesterday (18th March). The inauguration ceremony was hosted by the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Cheong Weng Chon and witnessed by the Chief of the Secretariat for Administration and Justice, Ng Chi Kin.
