“Art Macao” introduces the artistic world of Chen Zhifo in an exhibition of bird-and-flower paintings at Macao Museum of Art

In order to strengthen cooperation and exchange of cultural institutions of Macao and Nanjing, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Nanjing Museum jointly organize the exhibition “Quietness and Clarity: Works of Chen Zhifo from the Collection of the Nanjing Museum”. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held on 23rd August, at 6:30pm, at the Special Exhibition Gallery on the 4th floor of MAM and was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Wan Sucheng; the Acting President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the Deputy Director of the Nanjing Museum, Li Minchang; the Acting Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lau Fong; the Executive Vice President of the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao; Sio Chun Iun; the Vice President and General manager of the Macao Daily News; Wan Nang Hon; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei.


Gross domestic product for the 2nd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the economy of Macao in the second quarter of 2019 contracted by 1.8% year-on-year in real terms, representing a smaller decrease compared to the drop in the first quarter (-3.2%). The economic downturn was mainly due to a year-on-year decline in gross fixed capital formation. External demand continued to slow down; exports of gaming services fell by 0.8% and exports of goods slid by 24.4%. Domestic demand went down by 6.1% year-on-year, dragged down by a 25.0% drop in gross fixed capital formation; meanwhile, private consumption expenditure and government final consumption expenditure rose by 2.2% and 5.7% respectively, offsetting part of the decrease resulting from the economic slowdown. Imports of goods and services reduced by 0.8% and 13.7% respectively. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, increased by 2.4% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019.


Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) Adopted the Upgrades in Technical Compliance Ratings of Mutual Evaluation Follow-up Report of Macao, SAR

Being the coordinator of the Anti-Money Laundering/Combating of Financing of Terrorism Working Group (the AML/CFT Working Group) of Macao SAR, GIF participated in the Annual Meeting of Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) from 18th to 23rd August 2019 in Canberra, Australia, together with representatives of the Working Group members, including CCAC, SPU, SA, DSAJ, AMCM, DICJ, DSE and PJ. One of the meeting’s agenda items was to discuss the first Mutual Evaluation Follow-up Report of Macao SAR. Discussions were made on the amendments and follow-up actions of Macao SAR on the AML/CFT laws and evaluate the completeness of its legal and institutional framework. The report has to be tabled for discussion and endorsement by all APG members at the plenary meeting before it can be adopted.


Results of retail sales survey for 2nd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the value and volume of retail sales recorded a year-on-year decrease in the second quarter of 2019, with the sales value falling by 0.8% to MOP17.86 billion and the sales volume dropping by 0.5%.


“Macao Film Week” presents ten productions depicting Macao’s stories from multiple perspectives

The “Macao Film Week”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from 11 to 14 September featuring ten local productions released in the years following Macao’s Handover to China. The screening will be held at the Cinematheque・Passion and the Macau University of Science and Technology. Admission is free. All are welcome to attend.

Consumer Council released 7th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of August on 22 August for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Santo António Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


Consular corps accredited in Hong Kong and Macao visited exhibition integrated in “Art Macao”

On the occasion of the mega international arts and cultural event “Art Macao”, the MSAR Government invited members of the consular corps accredited in Hong Kong and Macao to participate in a visit organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, to an art exhibition integrated in the “Art Macao” event, on 20 August. The visit aimed to promote the concept of “A Cultural Macao” and to raise the reputation of this new iconic brand of cultural tourism at regional and international level, thus exploring more opportunities for future collaboration.


UM scholar develops smart detection technology for identifying potential congestive heart failure

Prof Tam Lap Mou from the University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Electromechanical Engineering received a Best Conference Paper Award at the 2019 Eurasia Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare and Sustainability of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), for his paper titled ‘A Smart Detection Technology for Personal Heartbeat Monitoring’.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 2nd quarter of 2019 – Gaming sector

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released survey results of Manpower Needs and Wages of the Gaming Sector for the second quarter of 2019. Survey coverage excludes junket promoters and junket associates.
