Latest situation regarding impact on Macao from the radiation leak of the Nuclear Power Plant in Japan
Upon the radiation leak occurred at Fukushima Prefecture Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 in Japan, the Macao Meteorological Bureau has been monitoring closely for any alteration of the radiation level in Macao and so far no abnormalities has been discovered. According to the monitoring data of Gamma Radiation recorded for the past 24 hours (20th March 10:01 till 21st March 10:00) by the Taipa Grande Station of the Macao Meteorological Bureau, the Gamma-ray absorbed dose rate per minute ranges between 0.1178 and 0.1318μGy/h (micro Gray / hour) which is far more below the warning level of 0.35μGy/h. Besides, the radiation level in Macao has always been within the normal level with no abnormalities found since the very beginning of this incident. The Macao Meteorological Bureau will continue to pay close attention to this nuclear incident in Japan and monitor for any possible impact on Macao. If any abnormalities being discovered, we will release related message to the public immediately and inform relevant government departments to adopt relative contingency measures.

2011MIECF – Green Business Co-operation Day Global Environmental Industries Gather Together to Explore Co-operation Opportunities
In order to promote exchanges and co-operation between enterprises and investors, as well as to seize upcoming green business opportunities, the Green Business Co-operation Day will be held in the afternoon of 31 March, the first day of the 2011 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF). A series of related activities will be held including the Green Business Forum as well as the Green Business Networking Cocktail Reception and Signing Ceremony. Leaders from the governments and chambers of commerce on Mainland China, European Union, Portuguese-speaking countries, Hong Kong and Macao, experts and senior representatives of world-renowned enterprises will participate in the event to discuss market situation and development opportunities of the environmental protection industry. Following the rise in global environmental awareness, electric vehicles have become the major development trend of the automotive industry. A new format of parallel meeting has been introduced this year. Representatives from reputable automobile enterprises and multi-national companies will participate in the discussion of topics such as future development of the electric vehicle industry and related technology for the fuel-cell vehicle industry. Mr. Francis Tam, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, will be the officiating guest of the Green Business Co-operation Day and give a speech at the event. Other speakers of the Launching Ceremony include Mr. Dong Jiayang, Chief Representative of Hong Kong and Macao Representative Office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Mr. Ma Iao Lai, President of Macao Chamber of Commerce. The Green Business Forum will be held at 2:30pm on Thursday, 31 March 2011, in the Sicily and Florence Room of the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. The Green Business Forum will be conducted under two themes, namely Exploring Green Business Market Opportunities and Opportunities in Green Sectors – E-mobility. Speakers will give in-depth speeches on these two themes. Speaker of the Forum include senior management and representatives of internationally-renowned enterprises such as Tong Fong Co Ltd (one of the top 100 companies in the electronic information industry in China), EDP Internacional (a major Portuguese multi-national corporation in the energy sector), Beijing Origin Water Technology Incorporation Company (a sewage water resource technology company in China) and world-leading chain retailer, the Walmart (China) Investment Co Ltd. The Green Business Forum is conducted in parallel session. Representatives of world-renowned automobile enterprises will participate in the discussions on fuel cell-operated vehicles and other related technologies. Contracts of a number of environmental co-operation projects will be signed to provide business exchange and networking opportunities for enterprises from different regions, with the objective of promoting co-operation of the environmental protection industry between Macao, Mainland China and overseas countries, especially those in the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region and the European Union. Chief Executive meets Jiangsu Governor
The launching of trade and tourism promotional activities of Macao in Jiangsu Province epitomised the long-existing co-operation between Macao and Jiangsu, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, said during his visit to the province today. He said this when he met the Governor of Jiangsu Province, Mr Li Xueyong, Vice Governor, Mr Zhang Weiguo, and a number of top officials of the province. Mr Chui said that the government is now focused on development of Chinese medicine, cultural, tourism and services industries and aimed to bring more conditions for Macao to diversify its industrial portfolio. Mr Li briefly introduced Jiangsu's recent development to Mr Chui and said he hoped that the two places could further co-operate in the future. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR, Ms Gao Yan, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Tam Pak Yuen, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr Cheong U, the Chief-of-Cabinet of the Office of the Chief Executive, Mr Tam Chon Weng, the Secretary-General of the Executive Council and Advisor of the Office of the Chief Executive, Ms O Lam, the Director of Government Information Bureau, Mr Chan Chi Ping, the President of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Mr Cheong Chou Weng, the Director of Macao Economic Services, Mr Sou Tim Peng, and the Director of the Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region in Beijing, Ms Hong Wai, and Advisors of the Office of the Chief Executive, Mr Fung Sio Weng and Mr Kou Chin Hung. After the meeting, Mr Chui opened Macao Week and Dynamic Macao promotion, a series of trade and tourism promotional activities, and attended a luncheon hosted by Mr Li. In the evening, Mr Chui hosted a reception to thank contributors of Macao Week.

Seminar on Mutual Legal Assistance – Adoption
As organised by the Legal and Judicial Training Centre, the Seminar on Mutual Legal Assistance - Adoption will start tomorrow, March 21st, at 17:00, in the Multi- function Room of the Law Reform and International Law Bureau located on Alameda Dr. Carlos D' Assumpção, n. ° 398, CNAC Building, 6th floor. This seminar is part of the 2nd Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field between the European Union and Macao, and will have as its keynote speaker Dr. Anne-Marie Flo, Master in Law (LLM), from the Catholic University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), Belgium, and Lawyer of the Central Federal Authority of Belgium. This event will be conducted in English, with simultaneous translation into Cantonese and Portuguese. During the five sessions that will take place daily between 17:00 and 19:00 until March 25th, the following topics will be discussed: 1. Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption of May 29th,1993;
2. Guide of Good Practices;
3. Practical cases: Colombia, the Philippines, Thailand, South Africa and Ethiopia;
4. Legal framework and practice in EU-member states. The main content of this seminar is to explore the reality aspect of inter-country adoption practices and to bring forth constructive opinions on the subject. In this seminar, the child protection and adoption mechanism of the Macao SAR as well as the corresponding legal practices will be discussed in depth through an analysis of the different modes of practices in different countries. The 2nd Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field between the European Union and Macao, which incorporates this seminar, has as its main objective the “Consolidation of the Macao Legal System” and is going to take place until December 2012. The execution of the Co-operation Programme is coordinated by the Law Reform and International Law Bureau, together with many entities and public departments of the Macao SAR, namely the Legal and Judicial Training Centre, the Legal Affairs Bureau, the Economic Services, the Financial Services Bureau and the Institute of European Studies of Macao.

Upon the radiation leak occurred at Fukushima Prefecture Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 in Japan, the Macao Meteorological Bureau has been monitoring closely for any alteration of the radiation level in Macao and so far no abnormalities has been discovered. At the same time, the World Meteorological Organization has already activated its Environmental Emergency Response operation. According to the latest forecasts conducted today (18th) by the two Regional Specialized Meteorological Centres including Beijing and Tokyo, nuclear radiation will mainly affect the eastern part of Japan and the Northern Pacific to the east of Japan for the next two days. Thus this nuclear incident is still not expected to affect Macao directly and we are still safe from that. According to the monitoring data of Gamma Radiation recorded for the past 24 hours (17th March 16:01 till 18th March 16:00) by the Taipa Grande Station of the Macao Meteorological Bureau, the Gamma-ray absorbed dose rate per minute ranges between 0.1187 and 0.1318μGy/h (micro Gray / hour) which is far more below the warning level of 0.35μGy/h.
