Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for the 1st quarter 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 141 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public at the end of the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 15 year-on-year; total number of available guest rooms grew by 19.6% to 47,000. In the first quarter, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments went up by 9.9 percentage points year-on-year to 84.8%; the rates for 5-star (87.1%), 4-star (81.0%) and 3-star hotels (81.1%) rose by 12.9 percentage points, 8.4 percentage points and 1.7 percentage points respectively.


External merchandise trade statistics for the first quarter of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that external merchandise trade totalled MOP35.89 billion in the first quarter of 2024, down by 7.0% compared to the same period last year (MOP38.60 billion). Total value of merchandise export grew by 4.5% year-on-year to MOP3.29 billion, of which value of domestic exports (MOP334 million) and re-exports (MOP2.96 billion) rose by 7.8% and 4.2% respectively. Total value of merchandise import dropped by 8.1% year-on-year to MOP32.60 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP29.30 billion in the first quarter, a decrease of MOP3.00 billion from the same quarter last year (MOP32.31 billion).


Call for submission of articles for the Review of Culture in celebration of 25th anniversary of the establishment of Macao SAR

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, theReview of Culture,an academic journal published by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, invites scholars and experts from different areas to submit articles in the fields of humanities, history, arts or literature related to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR, sharing their unique perspectives and the results of their studies.


The Financial Intelligence Office of the Unitary Police Service and the supervisory agencies continue to jointly organized explanatory sessions on risk assessment

As a member of the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG), the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) is required to continuously update its overall money laundering/terrorist financing/proliferation financing risk assessment to comply with the requirements of international standards. The latest round of risk assessment was successfully completed with the joint efforts of all parties, especially the coordination of the competent authorities and the active participation of various sectors in providing data. In order to enable the sectors to further understand the analysis and result of this round of risk assessment, in addition to the distribution of the latest "Macao Special Administrative Region Risk Assessment Report on Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing/Financing of Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction" to the sectors by the supervisory agencies, the Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) of the Unitary Police Service, being the coordinating agency of the project, continued to cooperate with supervisory agencies to organize thematic explanatory sessions on the report for different sectors, providing opportunities for interactive communication which enhance the sectors’ awareness and understanding of the importance of risk assessment projects.
