【Enjoy festive highlights】Macao Grand Prix Museum celebrates Chinese New Year with diverse activities

Under the management of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Macao Grand Prix Museum (the “Museum”) will hold the Spring Couplets Calligraphy Activity for the Year of Snake” to enrich museumgoers’ visits with festive joy. “A Racing Legacy – Drivers’ Collection Exhibition” and “VR F3 Pit Stop Challenge” are held at the Museum until February. Residents and visitors are welcome to the Museum during Chinese New Year.


UTM introduces PhD degree programme in Cultural Studies, cultivating talents in the relevant field

To cultivate talents in the field of cultural studies, the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) will launch a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cultural Studies degree programme in the academic year 2025/2026 to promote the preservation and transmission of culture, and fostering the development of cultural endeavors in Macao and the nation. This initiative aims to bolster Macao's role as ‘a multicultural exchange and cooperation base with an emphasis on Chinese culture, while facilitating exchanges between Chinese and foreign civilisations.’ The new programme will be in effect after being published in MSAR Gazette.



MGTO continuously deepens “tourism +” integration and advances diverse tourism strengths with travel trade

Capitalizing on the city’s competitive strengths and the series of favorable measures implemented by the Central Government for Macao, along with the concerted effort in the society, Macao’s tourism industry continues to fare well. In 2024, Macao registered over 34.90 million visitor arrivals (34,928,650), which surged year on year by 23.8% and reached 88.6% of the pre-pandemic 2019 levels. The volume of international visitors rose year on year by 66.0% to 2.42 million (2,423,093), which reached 79% of the pre-pandemic 2019 levels.


MGTO attracts visitors from worldwide through innovative promotions and forges ahead with diverse market development

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) keeps “going global and bringing in”, as the key marketing strategy, in branding the destination with innovative and diverse approaches online and offline to widen the reach into visitor markets. In 2024, the Office progressed with an array of promotional initiatives in domestic, regional and overseas visitor markets. Special offers were launched for international visitors in partnership with industry operators. Roadshows were staged in visitor markets near and far. The mega roadshow series “Macao Week” was rolled out in the Mainland continuously. Incorporating a variety of promotions on different online platforms, the marketing endeavors engaged wide attention and participation in different visitor markets. In 2025, MGTO will strive to attract visitors from different parts of the world by strengthening and reigniting the momentum of various visitor markets as well as exploring potential ones around the world. The work will propel Macao’s development into a world centre of tourism and leisure.


Archives of Macao unveiled the “Exhibition and Donation Ceremony of Fishing Junk Models by Wan Chun”

Organised by the Archives of Macao, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the “Exhibition and Donation Ceremony of Fishing Junk Models by Wan Chun” was unveiled on 18 January (Saturday) at the Exhibition Gallery of the Archives of Macao. During the ceremony, the Director of the Archives of Macao, Lou Hong Wai, on behalf of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented a donation certificate to Wan Chun and thanked him for his strong support to the development and preservation of Macao’s traditional culture. Wan Chun then shared with the attendees the stories behind the donated wooden fishing junk models.


Contemporary Circus An acrobatic welcome to springtime

The Cultural Affairs Bureau will present Knitting Peace, a contemporary circus conceived for teenagers and grownups alike, brought from Sweden by the avant-garde Cirkus Cirkör to Macao Cultural Centre’s Grand Auditorium, in two shows scheduled for 21 and 22 March (Friday and Saturday).


Supplements for Philatelic Album of Macao 2024

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will release the “Supplements for Philatelic Album of Macao 2024” on 24th January 2025, and they will be available for sale at the Philatelic Shop of the General Post Office and the Communications Museum. The album pages are pre-printed with all the stamp images of 2024. Your collection of stamps and souvenir sheets of 2024 can be put into the pre-printed pages for convenient collection.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for December and the whole year of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that inbound package tour visitors totalled 2,103,000 in 2024, an uplift of 63.8% year-on-year. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments rose by 4.9 percentage points year-on-year to 86.4%; number of guests increased by 6.4% to 14,433,000, and their average length of stay remained at 1.7 nights.


CE urges local Portuguese- and English-language news media to continue role of international communication

The local Portuguese- and English-language news media are one important embodiment of Macao’s multiculturalism and they should continue to function as a bridge for international communication in addition to their role as a watchdog on governance matters.
