2022 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition Postponed

The 2022 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2022MIECF), organised by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, was originally scheduled to be held from 31 March to 2 April. In view of the latest COVID-19 pandemic situation in the neighbouring regions, after careful consideration, the organiser has decided to postpone the 2022MIECF to 18-20 August.

The grace period for the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes will end on 1 April 2022 (Friday). The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre (hereinafter referred to as the “Centre”) announces that in response to the changes of the epidemic situation, Announcement no. 145/A/SS/2022 has been made by the Health Bureau under the stipulations of articles 10 and 14 of Law no. 2/2004 – “Law on the Prevention, Control and Treatment of Infectious Diseases”. With effect from 00:00 on 28 March 2022:


Consumer price index (CPI) for February 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for February 2022 (103.40) rose by 0.81% year-on-year. The increment was attributed to higher wages of domestic helpers, dearer charges for eating out and electricity, along with increasing prices of gasoline and fruits; however, the rise was partially offset by lower rentals for dwellings, falling charges for telecommunication services and reduced prices of pork. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Household Furnishings & Services and Transport grew by 9.86% and 4.58% year-on-year respectively, whereas the index of Communication dropped by 10.51%. The CPI-A (103.20) and CPI-B (103.68) saw respective growth of 0.52% and 1.20% year-on-year.


Beware of fraudulent calls purportedly from Mainland China’s Police, Public Prosecutions Office or the Court

Members of the public informed the Judiciary Police regarding suspected fraudulent calls from an alleged customer service staff of a mobile phone messaging software, who spoke in Putonghua, claiming that their mobile phone account was involved in spreading fake information about the pandemic and the call was transferred to an alleged staff of Mainland China’s Police. The staff told them that their bank account would be frozen as they were involved in a financial crime. They were also told that the prosecutor had issued an arrest warrant and they were required to transfer their money to a designated "security account" in order to be granted bail pending trial. Call recipients immediately hung up on the caller on suspicion of the call’s fraudulent nature and reported the incident to the Judiciary Police.


Employment survey for December 2021-February 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (3.3%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (4.3%) for December 2021-February 2022 increased by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period (November 2021-January 2022). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate dropped by 0.3 percentage points to 2.9%.
