Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population of the Macao Special Administrative Region totalled 686,500 at the end of the first half of 2026, an increase of 600 year-on-year. As regards the gender distribution, the female population (371,000) exceeded the male population (315,500), accounting for 54.0% of the total.
Male babies comprised 52.5% of the 1,340 live births in the first half year. Mortality totalled 1,329, with the leading cause of death being Neoplasms (473, 35.6% of total), followed by Diseases of the Circulatory System (362, 27.2%) and Diseases of the Respiratory System (138, 10.4%).
With respect to the population movement, number of new arrivals from the Chinese mainland with one-way permit (1,466) and number of individuals newly granted right of abode (471) decreased by 150 and 424 respectively year-on-year in the first half year.
In the first half year, cases of marriage registration increased by 5 year-on-year to 1,447.
