A delegation led by João Eurico Cabral da Fonseca, dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (ULisboa), visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by Yonghua Song, rector of UM, and Ge Wei, vice rector of UM and interim dean of the Faculty of Medicine (FMD). During the visit, the two sides exchanged views on medical education, biomedical research, talent cultivation, and international cooperation, with a shared goal of deepening collaboration between the two institutions.

During the visit, the two parties had extensive discussions on the preparation of their joint bachelor’s and master’s dual degree programme in clinical medicine. Topics included curriculum design, clinical training, quality assurance, student development, and international medical education. The discussions reflected the shared commitment of UM and ULisboa to nurturing medical professionals with strong clinical competencies, research capabilities, and a global perspective.

The ULisboa delegation also met with faculty members, researchers, students, alumni, and industry representatives to exchange views on curriculum development, student support services, research and innovation, and clinical training. The discussions helped advance the development of the joint degree programme and identify new opportunities for academic collaboration. In addition, the delegation toured FMD’s teaching and research facilities, including its major research platforms and learning commons.

Other members of the ULisboa delegation included Ricardo Fernandes, commission coordinator of the Faculty of Medicine; Maria José Diógenes, president of the Pedagogical Council of the Faculty of Medicine; and Miguel A. R. B. Castanho, professor in the Faculty of Medicine.
