Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 252,697 as at end-April 2025, up by 1% year-on-year. In April, cross-border vehicular traffic (880,495 trips) rose by 23.6% year-on-year, whereas passenger ferry trips (6,494 trips) and arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (4,515 trips) dropped by 1.2% and 7.2% respectively. As at end-April, number of mobile phone subscribers (1,461,297) and internet subscribers (778,821) showed respective growth of 4% and 5.1% year-on-year.
In April, new registration of motor vehicles dropped by 5.7% year-on-year to 884 (electric vehicles accounted for 322 or 36.4%). In the first four months of 2025, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 3.4% to 3,887 (electric vehicles accounted for 1,317 or 33.9%). Number of traffic accidents went down by 9.1% year-on-year to 1,136 in April, with 388 persons injured. In the first four months, there were 4,762 traffic accidents, which resulted in 1,684 injuries.
As regards cross-border traffic, cross-border vehicular traffic grew by 23.6% year-on-year to 880,495 trips in April. Light passenger car trips rose by 25.6% year-on-year to 832,247; of which, Macao single-plate vehicle trips to and from Hengqin (171,000) and trips made under the “Northbound Travel for Macao Vehicles” policy (134,000) went up by 44.5% and 12.2% respectively. In April, passenger ferry trips (6,494 trips) and arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (4,515 trips) reduced by 1.2% and 7.2% year-on-year respectively. In the first four months, cross-border vehicular traffic (3,435,867 trips) and passenger ferry trips (26,482 trips) went up by 23.1% and 0.5% year-on-year respectively, whereas arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (18,136 trips) fell slightly by 0.2%.
With respect to the volume of cross-boundary cargo, gross weight of containerized cargo by land (5,074 tonnes) and port containerized cargo (15,917 tonnes) dropped by 6.4% and 4.7% year-on-year respectively in April. Meanwhile, gross weight of air cargo rose by 7.1% year-on-year to 8,298 tonnes, of which gross weight of inward cargo (360 tonnes), outward cargo (7,486 tonnes) and transit cargo (452 tonnes) grew by 7.1%, 6.9% and 10.2% respectively. In the first four months, gross weight of containerized cargo by land (18,621 tonnes) and port containerized cargo (56,414 tonnes) decreased by 15.6% and 10.3% year-on-year respectively, while gross weight of air cargo (28,444 tonnes) diminished by 5.2%.
As at the end of April 2025, there were 79,751 fixed-line telephone subscribers, down by 6.7% year-on-year. Number of mobile phone subscribers increased by 4% year-on-year to 1,461,297; postpaid subscribers (1,047,179) and prepaid card subscribers (414,118) rose by 2.1% and 9.3% respectively. Internet subscribers totalled 778,821 as at end-April, up by 5.1% year-on-year. The duration of internet usage in April rose marginally by 0.5% to 149 million hours, whereas the total duration of internet usage in the first four months fell slightly by 0.1% to 576 million hours.
