This year’s Government Headquarters Open Day sessions will be held during the coming weekend (18 and 19 October), from 9am to 6pm.
The theme of this year’s floral display for the Open Day sessions is the “15th National Games”. Landscaping has been used – via an array of flowers and plants – to create a festive and vibrant atmosphere, encourage public engagement with the National Games, and to represent their unique elements.
The Government Headquarters are on Avenida da Praia Grande. During the Open Day sessions, the public are directed to use the Travessa do Paiva entrance located at the right-hand of the Protocol Palace – a structure dating from 1849 – as visitors face the front of the main building. Once in the grounds, visitors should follow a designated route, which includes stops at the Multi-purpose Room and the Lotus Room on the ground floor. Via the marble staircase to the first floor, visitors can also explore the Grand Hall, the Green Hall, the Yellow Hall, and the Blue Hall.
The Multi-purpose Room will host a “Festivals, Sports and Arts Events of Macao” photo exhibition. In addition, guided tours of the Protocol Palace will be available, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the interior settings of the Grand Hall on the upper floor, and of the building as a whole.
This year’s floral display takes the “15th National Games” as its theme. The unique elements of the National Games are represented by landscaping featuring an array of flowers and plants, that create a festive and vibrant atmosphere and encourage public participation in the National Games. The display is accentuated by over 20 varieties of blossom and botanical items, with the ping pong chrysanthemum featured as the signature bloom of the entire flower show. The display transforms the grounds and gardens of the Government Headquarters into an extravaganza of athletic symbols, with a floral scent.
The flower display is in four locations, namely the Protocol Palace front yard, the lawn, the flower pergola, and the Protocol Palace indoor display area. The 15th National Games mascots “Xiyangyang” and “Lerongrong” will greet visitors at the main entrance to the Protocol Palace. The name and the emblem of the 15th National Games are formed using the ping pong chrysanthemum signature flower, highlighted by the logos of the competition events being staged in Macao. The multicoloured floral display has a character that is distinctive and exuberant, and is sure to catch visitors’ attention.
The colours red, purple and green – predominant in the emblem of the 15th National Games – are transformed into dancing ribbons as part of the floral display. The recurring motif of giant floral installations features local blooms, namely those of the cotton tree, bauhinia, and lotus, representing respectively the three host cities Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao. Waltzing through the colourful blooms are the Games’ mascots “Xiyangyang” and “Lerongrong”, signifying integration and connectivity, as well as the boundless vitality of the three hosting places. The flowers will be in full bloom, as if nurtured by the excitement surrounding the 15th National Games.
Inspired by bouquets presented to athletes, the grand floral arrangement features three key flowers – cotton tree, bauhinia and lotus – to echo the three host cities Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao. The giant bouquet of the 15th National Games is further embellished with the lively and adorable mascots, offering warm welcome and greetings to each and every visitor.
In conjunction with the Open Day sessions, there will be a series of performances by the Public Security Police Force Band, as well as other musical-instrument and dance performances, including by representatives of the School of Music and of the School of Dance at the Macao Conservatory. The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will set up a temporary postal counter near Nam Van Lake, offering a commemorative-postmark service and philatelic products related to the Open Day sessions.
To mark the Government Headquarters Open Day sessions, souvenirs will be offered to visitors, while supplies last. Visitors are advised to exercise care when navigating steps on their visit to the Government Headquarters. Selfie sticks, umbrellas, drinks, and food are all barred from the premises, as are pets.
