UM receives 18 Science and Technology Awards

The University of Macau (UM) received a total of 29 awards at the awards ceremony of the 2024 Science and Technology Awards of the Macao SAR, which was held by the Macao SAR government today (28 May). The awards include 18 Science and Technology Awards and 11 Scientific and Technological R&D Awards for Postgraduates.

Out of the 22 Science and Technology Awards presented this year, UM claimed 18, accounting for over 80 per cent of the total number of awards. The university received 3 second prizes and 6 third prizes in the Natural Science Award category; 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, and 4 third prizes in the Technological Invention Award category; and 1 third prize in the Science and Technology Progress Award category. In addition, 11 UM doctoral students received the Scientific and Technological R&D Awards for Postgraduates.

Guests who attended the awards ceremony and presented the awards included: Sam Hou Fai, chief executive of the Macao SAR; Zheng Xincong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Liu Xianfa, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR; Tai Kin Ip, secretary for economy and finance of the Macao SAR; Guo Renzhong, member of the Project Advisory Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) of the Macao SAR and president of the Federation of Guangdong Academicians; Chiang Kin Seng, member of the Project Advisory Committee of FDCT; and Che Weng Keong, president of the Administrative Committee of FDCT.

In recent years, UM has actively optimised its ‘5-in-1’ research and innovation system. The university has focused on its research strengths to enhance its research capacity and has promoted the commercialisation of its research results. UM will further foster interdisciplinary collaboration, increase its research impact, and accelerate technological applications, thereby injecting innovative momentum into Macao’s economic diversification.
