Formalities and Required Documents

Applications can be made by applicant or his/her legal representative, or a lawyer or legal agent from a law firm in Macao. The following documents should be submitted in person.

  1. Completed application form (the form can be obtained from the location for application):
    1. Application form for maritime registration / cancellation / change or revision / renewal / replacement for ships (format I 1/DET); (applicable to all vessels except pleasure boats)
    2. Application form for maritime registration / deletion of ship’s log / change or revision of ship’s log / renewal / replacement for pleasure boats (format I 1A/DET); (applicable to pleasure boats)
  2. Certified copy of identification document;
  3. Photocopy of the latest supporting document for the establishment of the entity, if the applicant is a juristic person (original copy to be presented for verification) (Entities which have been registered in the Commerce and Movable Property Registry, and of which information can be obtained online from the Legal Affairs Bureau, are not required to submit the Commercial Registration Certificate);
  4. Photocopy of certificate of maritime registration for ships (original copy to be presented for verification);
  5. Photocopy of ship’s registration card (original copy to be presented for verification);
  6. Photocopy of seaworthiness certificate (if applicable) (original copy to be presented for verification);
  7. Photocopy of miscellaneous licence (if applicable) (original copy to be presented for verification);
  8. Supporting documents of cancellation of facts (e.g.: supporting documents for facts including loss of ship’s flag, demolition or dismantling of ship, ship sinking etc.).

Documents required to be processed / applied in advance:

  1. Notarized documents signed by the applicant (if applicable);
  2. Certified copy of identification document;
  3. Photocopy of the latest supporting document for the establishment of the entity, if the applicant is a juristic person (original copy to be presented for verification) (Entities which have been registered in the Commerce and Movable Property Registry, and of which information can be obtained online from the Legal Affairs Bureau, are not required to submit the Commercial Registration Certificate);
  4. Supporting documents of cancellation of facts(e.g.: supporting documents for facts including loss of ship’s flag, demolition or dismantling of ship, ship sinking etc.);
  5. Pursuant to the Notary Code, documents issued outside of Macao should be translated (if necessary).

Notes:

  • Signature of the applicant should be notarised, except when the applicant submits the application form in person and prove his/her identity with an identification document. Such procedures must be done while submitting the application.
  • If the application form is submitted by a lawyer or legal agent from a law firm in Macao, notarised signature is exempted.
  • Documents issued outside of Macao SAR are accepted according to the Civil Law; when necessary, persons of interest should submit translated copies of those, in accordance with the Code of Notaries.

Charges

Application Fees

Fees charged pursuant to the “General table of fees of the Marine and Water Bureau”.

Stamp Duty

Stamp duty is levied according to the Chief Executive Dispatch No. 87/2021, republishing the full texts of the “Stamp Duty Regulations” and its annex, “General Table of Stamp Duty”.

Notes:

  • By cash or cheque.
  • When payment is made by cheque, remember to make the cheque payable to “Direcção dos Serviços de Assuntos Marítimos e de Água” and it must comply with Paragraph 3 of Article 5 of No.22/2008 Administrative Regulations, of 4 August, and must be a certified cheque.

Processing Time

  • Upon submission of all necessary documents, the application will be approved within 12 working days, excluding the day of application submission (except for the cases involving ship demolition, dismantling or sinking). (Performance Pledge)
  • The processing time of applications which involve ship demolition, dismantling or sinking, varies according to actual circumstances.
