“Remembrance Garden” is located between the ash storage building in Taipa Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery and Cemitério de Budista.

To continuously optimise public burial facilities and meeting the community’s needs, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has launched the expansion of ash storage facilities in “Remembrance Garden” in Taipa Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery in phases. The first phase of the works has been completed and the facility will be put into use from 21 September onwards.

“Remembrance Garden” is located between the ash storage building in Taipa Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery and Cemitério de Budista. The entrance and exit are located in Estrada da Ponta da Cabrita, Taipa. It has a tranquil environment, providing a serene resting place for the deceased. “Remembrance” symbolises “remembering the past with gratitude and everlasting sentiments”, expressing the sentiments of remembrance and gratitude for the deceased. Furnaces for burning joss paper, toilet and other ancillary facilities are installed to provide convenience to those who use the garden.

The first to seventh floor of the ash storage facility is now open in the first phase, providing over 5,000 ash boxes for public application. The period of the first-time right of use of an ash box is 25 years. After the period, the right of use can be renewed for a period of 10 years each time. The charges are as below:

  • Class A: MOP2,500
  • Class B: MOP1,500
  • If the ashes are not from a public cemetery, the applicant is required to apply for the License for moving remains, bone remains or ashes to a cemetery: MOP100
  • Stamp duty: 10% of the application fee

The relevant details of the application formalities can be found in “Cemetery” on the IAM website (https://www.iam.gov.mo/e/scope-grave/scope) or by calling 2833 7676 for enquiries. The public can also visit the various Integrated Services Centres, Public Services Centres or the Service Office in Our Lady Mercy Cemetery to obtain more details and process the formalities.
