MGTO to publish room rate on website during May 1 Labor Day holiday to boost transparency

Macau Government Tourist Office joins hand with the hotel industry to publish the rates of different hotel room categories reported by the trade during May 1 Labor Day holiday. The trade noted that if a guest reserves room through a hotel directly, the room rate will not be higher than the maximum rate submitted by the hotel. Representatives of MGTO held a meeting with local hoteliers association mid April to exchange views on the rates of different hotel room categories in Macau during May 1 Labor Day holiday. Hoteliers expressed that though seasonal fluctuation in room rates is common business practice, both parties agreed to enhance transparency to provide adequate information for consumer to make choices. MGTO will publish on its website today (April 25) the room rates from April 29 to May 8 submitted by the hotel industry as a reference for citizens and visitors. MGTO will notify Consumer Council and travel agents association of the room rates reported by the hotels. Guests can check hotel information and the published room rates at MGTO website www.macautourism.gov.mo or call Tourism Hotline 28333000 to file complaint. To facilitate investigation, complainant should state clearly information such as the date of check in, hotel name, room category and/or room number, booking voucher and receipt. MGTO expressed that the guests, who reserve rooms through any other channel, can take the room rates published on the website as reference. MGTO will also publish on its website the rates of different room categories of the guesthouses in Macau during May 1 Labor Day holiday. According to the current regulation, each hotel needs to inform MGTO of any revised room rates. The rate of a rented room should not be higher than the registered one and MGTO will conduct investigate upon receiving complaint.
