Having created more than a thousand pieces, Astor Piazzolla, tango’s foremost composer, has written the only “tango opera” in the world. With a complex script, María de Buenos Aires is a fantastical yet surreal work interlacing elements of music, dance and religion with recondite metaphors.

The City Contemporary Dance Company will present María de Buenos Aires based on Piazzolla’s original opera. Revolving around its several keywords, this talk will give a simple yet in-depth introduction to this fascinating piece.

Speaker: Hung Sze Hang
Hung is a music critic, winner of the Award for Young Artist (Arts Criticism) at the 2017 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards, Hong Kong Arts Development Council examiner (music), full member of the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong), and member of Zense A Cappella. He is an editor of the Hong Kong Classical Music Yearbook Series (2014 & 2015), and has published essays in South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Economic Journal, and The News Lens and participated in the production of more than 30 operas.

The deadline for registration is 17 September. In case of oversubscription, selection will be made by drawing lots.
