A story spanning life and death, crossing time and space, set against an era of turmoil and moral challenges.
Starting from Rua da Felicidade, a woman and a man traverse sixty years. She keeps returning, searching for something – or someone. He, a gambler at heart, drifts between highs and lows. As the decades roll by, crowds shift and the world changes around them, yet a quiet attachment never fades. Is it a choice, or an obsession? Reincarnation, or redemption? At its core, a story of ethical collapse in the face of survival.
First staged in 2006, Everlasting Youth returns to the Arts Festival after twenty years with a revamped production. Written and directed by Macao’s celebrated playwright Lawrence Lei, the play is produced by Jacky Li – founder of Theatre Farmers – who also co-stars alongside popular local actress Carmen Kong. Bringing together homegrown thespians, it invites the audience to gaze at the passage of time, reflecting on the beauty and ugliness of human nature.
