2018 PLPEX•Broader Exhibition Area, China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Platform at Full Blast

Held independently last year, the "Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)" achieved fruitful results

The 2018 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) (2018 PLPEX) will be held from October 18th to 20th concurrently with the 23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (23rd MIF) at the Venetian Macao. Based on the first experience of independent exhibition last year, 2018 PLPEX will expand the exhibition area to 6,000 square meters, and initiate activities like the "Brazil Unmanned Commodity Experience Zone (Brazil Center)" and "Portuguese-speaking Countries Wine and Food Business Matching." These activities will give full play to Macao’s role as a China-Portuguese-speaking Countries platform and develop the “new retail” co-operation model.

PLPEX was held concurrently with the 20th MIF for the first time as a supporting exhibition. With two years’ successful experience and continuous enhancement of Macao's advantage as a China-Portuguese-speaking Countries platform, PLPEX was held independently last year for the first time, covering an area of over 3,000 square meters. It attracted more than 210 organisations and enterprises from Portuguese-speaking countries, registered users of the “Economic and Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” (the Portal) as well as the professional service providers at the Portal. The exhibition area was divided into four zones, including the Exhibition Area of Governments/Trade Promotion Organisations and Trade Associations, the Exhibition Area of Food Products, the Exhibition Area of Non-Food Products, and Services Exhibition Area. The three-day event was held in parallel with 22nd MIF and facilitated the signing of 67 contracts, covering government-association co-operation, collaboration in agriculture, tourism, sports, education, network promotion, production, agency and re-packaging, high-technology, food trade, brand entry and so on. Besides, more than 389 procurement meetings were conducted in the business matching area.

This year, the exhibition area will expand to 6,000 square meters, a double compared to last year’s PLPEX, to accommodate 300 booths. Culture and food from Portuguese-speaking countries will be put under the spotlight through the “Economic and Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” and offline advertising. PLPEX is expected to draw exhibitors from 8 Portuguese-speaking Countries, agencies of product and service of Portuguese-speaking Countries from mainland China, Macao and Hong Kong, involving a raft of sectors including food, building materials, clothing, catering, e-commerce and suchlike.

The 2018 PLPEX will introduce the "Brazil Unmanned Commodity Experience Zone (Brazil Center)" to showcase the merits of Brazilian integrated products and their concept of health and environmental protection, and expand China-Brazil economic and trade co-operation. Meanwhile, the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Cross-border E-Commerce Workshop” will be organised to assist enterprises from Portuguese-speaking Countries to enter the Mainland market with online platforms. It will also be the first time to have the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Wine and Food Business Matching Seminar” and “Portuguese-speaking Countries Food Experience Zone”, and “China-Portugal SME Business and Trade Service Zone” will be continuously to set up so as to support enterprises to “Go Global” and “Bring in Investments” while promoting co-operation for more business opportunities. In addition, Portuguese-speaking Countries’ fashion shows, singing performance, exhibitions of characteristic handicrafts and other activities will be held in the venue.

PLPEX is to organise a great number of professional forums and seminars, such as the “China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Young Entrepreneurs Forum.” It aims to help entities from Portuguese-speaking Countries to seize the development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and expedite the development of Macao's featured finance industry. At the same time, the organisers also plans to arrange a tour to different cities of the Greater Bay Area for enterprises from Portuguese-speaking Countries, in order to deepen their understanding of the policies and development opportunities of the Greater Bay Area.
