Consumer Council published latest Consumer Report Featuring test reports and Code of Practice for pet products and services

The Consumer Council published issue no. 303 Consumer Report, featuring a report on the testing of boxed tissue papers and sanitary napkins, as well as a feature on the publication of the “Code of Practice for Pet Products and Services”. Consumers may get access to the contents by visiting the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo).

The Macao Consumer Council and Zhuhai Association for Consumers' Rights and Interests Protection worked together again after the test on melamine-ware conducted earlier this year, the latest project was a test to examine boxed tissue papers and sanitary napkins. All 12 samples of tissue papers and sanitary napkins from Macao meet the requirements of the testing standards, consumers may check Consumer Report issue 303 for details.

The Consumer Council continues to review its monitoring measures on “Certified Shops”, including amending existing or adding new Code of Practice for “Certified Shops” to improve the operations and service quality of “Certified Shops”. Consumers are also able to know about the practices and promises of shops from various industries so that trust can be built between consumers and traders.

The 26 requirements in the “Code of Practice for Retail industry of Pet Products and Services” guarantee the honest practice of shops, safety and other concerns of pet products and pet services. This Code of Practice is the 19th Code of Practice established by the Consumer Council for the various industries in Macao and is included in the annual “Certified Shops” assessment.

China Chamber of Tourism promotes “Certified Shops” in China

The Council inspected “Certified Shops” with President Wang Ping of the China Chamber of Tourism from Beijing earlier to follow up on the evaluation mechanism and operation of the annual assessment, Wang Ping stated that consumer rights are better safeguarded when shops voluntarily join the “Certified Shops” mechanism and are willing to be monitored by the Council, and that the Chamber will assist in the promotion of “Certified Shops” in the mainland to attract more tourists to Macao.

The Consumer Council and China Chamber of Tourism signed a work agreement in 2007 for the promotion of consumer rights, case referral, other co-operation projects in tourism, as well as the issuance of the annual “Certified Shop” emblem.

The latest magazine also includes a feature on the joint meeting held by consumer organizations in Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Hengqin, and Macao, as well as a case sample of the Consumer Arbitration Centre about renovation. Consumer Report is now available free of charge at the Council (Av. Horta e Costa, N.º 26, Edf. Clementina Ho), and the service counter of the Council at Macao SAR Government Service Centre (Rua Nova da Areia Preta, Nº52), Public Information Centre at Vicky Plaza, libraries, and bookstores. Consumers may also access the magazine online on the Council’s official website and WeChat official account.
