The probabilities of issuing severe weather warning signals

Update Time: 2021-08-03 11:15

Signals Forecast Period Probability
Typhoon Signal No.1 In effect
Typhoon Signal No.3 Afternoon on Aug. 3rd Medium
"blue" Storm Surge Warning Low

The tropical depression south of the Pearl River Estuary continues to strengthen and is taking a faster and more northerly path than expected. It will come closest to Macau during the day today, passing within 100 km of Macau, and therefore the probability of issuing the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 was changed from “relatively low to medium” to “medium”. It is expected that there will be heavy showers during the day in Macau, and the wind will strengthen and there will be gusts. Although the circulation of the tropical depression is relatively small, its path is close to the Pearl River Estuary and it is continuously strengthening. Therefore, SMG may consider issuing Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 this afternoon depending on the situation. The public are advised to pay close attention to the change in weather and the latest storm news.

On the other hand, the possibility of flooding caused by storm surge is low since there is no astronomical tide around these days. However, the public should still pay attention to the possibility of flooding caused by heavy rains.

Remarks: The probabilities of issuing severe weather warning signals for the next one or two days are provided in the table. Public can learn the possibility of being affected by the tropical cyclone over the specific period of time in Macao so that necessary precautions can be well prepared earlier. Please keep notice of our latest information.
