The ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup Macao 2026 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group – Round of 16 matches commence


The ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup Macao 2026 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, sanctioned by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), organized by the Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and World Table Tennis Management Group Limited (WTMG), and co-organized by the Macau Table Tennis General Association, commenced the Round of 16 matches today (2 April) at the Galaxy Arena.

In the women's singles, several female players from China were in action today. Defending champion Sun Yingsha faced teammate Kuai Man in a closely contested all-Chinese clash that lasted six intense games. The two players were evenly matched throughout the first four games, battling to a 2-2 draw. However, Sun Yingsha continued to rise with a resilient performance in the latter stages, ultimately prevailing 4-2 (9-11, 11-4, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6, 13-11) to secure her spot in the quarter-finals. In another match, although Wang Manyu trailed 0-6 in the opening game against Japan's Mima Ito, she quickly adjusted her form to launch a counter-attack, ultimately winning 4-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-5, 11-3) to storm to the quarter-finals. Wang Yidi also produced a commanding performance, defeating Japan's Miwa Harimoto 4-1 (11-7, 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8). Elsewhere, Qin Yuxuan faced Sabine Winter of Germany; despite winning the first game, Qin was unable to maintain her lead as her opponent fought back to take four consecutive games, resulting in a 1-4 loss (11-9, 5-11, 6-11, 6-11, 8-11) and concluding her run in the Round of 16.

In the men’s singles, Japan’s player Tomokazu Harimoto and Germany’s Dang Qiu were evenly matched, battling through seven games to decide the winner. Harimoto ultimately prevailed with a narrow 4-3 victory (11-13, 8-11, 12-10, 13-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6) to book his place in the next round. Fellow Japanese player Sora Matsushima faced Korea Republic’s Jang Woojin; despite losing the opening game, Matsushima seized control to win 4-1 (11-13, 11-6, 11-7, 12-10, 11-8). In another match, Sweden’s Truls Moregard defeated Patrick Franziska of Germany 4-0 (13-11,11-5,11-7, 11-4). In the final match of the day, two French players Alexis Lebrun and Thibault Poret faced off, with Lebrun securing a 4-1 victory (3-11, 16-14, 13-11, 11-4, 11-7) to progress.

The Round of 16 matches will continue tomorrow (3 April). In the Men's World Cup, Wang Chuqin (China) faces Felix Lebrun (France), Wen Ruibo (China) takes on Lin Yun-Ju (Chinese Taipei), Shunsuke Togami (Japan) meets Hugo Calderano (Brazil), and Darko Jorgic (Slovenia) battles against Dimitrij Ovtcharov (Germany). As for the Women's World Cup, Chen Xingtong (China) faces Adriana Diaz (Puerto Rico), Ying Han (Germany) is up against Shin Yubin (Korea Republic), Jia Nan Yuan (France) meets Hana Goda (Egypt), and Honoka Hashimoto (Japan) plays Bruna Takahashi (Brazil).

Ticket sales have received an overwhelming response from the public. A limited number of tickets are available on Damai application and mini program, and with a maximum of four tickets per person per transaction. Every spectator at or over 1.2m in height must show their ticket for admission. Children who are shorter than 1.2m in height and do not occupy a seat can enter the venue free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult; each adult can only bring along one child with free admission.
