The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, today met with the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Sun Yeli. They exchanged views on ensuring the successful hosting of the 13th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Tourism Ministerial Meeting, supporting Macao’s continued development as a world centre of tourism and leisure, and advancing the construction of the Macao International Integrated Tourism and Cultural Zone.
The meeting took place in Macao ahead of the welcome dinner hosted for the delegates to the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting.
Mr Sam welcomed Minister Sun and his delegation to Macao and thanked him for presiding over this year’s Tourism Ministerial Meeting in Macao. In close cooperation with national strategic arrangements, the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government attached great importance to hosting the significant APEC meetings, the Chief Executive said. Since the beginning of the year, the MSAR Government has maintained efficient communication and collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and other relevant central authorities, steadily advancing all preparatory work. Progress has been smooth and in line with expectations, and the MSAR Government is fully confident that the meeting will be successfully and smoothly conducted in Macao.
The MSAR Government is actively leveraging Macao’s unique advantage of being “backed by the motherland, connected to the world”, further highlighting its development positioning as “One Centre, One Platform and One Base”, which is instrumental in driving Macao’s appropriate economic diversification.
In particular, the ongoing development of the Macao International Integrated Tourism and Cultural Zone will serve as a key driver for Macao’s sustainable and high-quality development. Mr Sam expressed hope for continued strong support and guidance from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism throughout the project’s implementation. He also expressed hope for deeper collaboration between the MSAR Government and the Ministry, jointly advancing the sustained development of the cultural and tourism sectors in both Macao and the Chinese mainland.
Mr Sun expressed the Ministry’s full support for the MSAR in hosting the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, saying he was pleased to see that preparatory work had progressed smoothly. He expressed full confidence that the MSAR Government would successfully deliver the event.
He added that the Ministry had long been committed to, and supportive of, the sustained development of Macao’s cultural and tourism sectors. Looking forward, the Ministry would continue, in accordance with the country’s overall strategy, to support fully the MSAR Government in deepening its work in the cultural and tourism fields – including the advancement of the International Integrated Tourism and Cultural Zone – so as to enhance the quality of Macao’s development, strengthen international tourism cooperation, and better serve and integrate into the nation’s overall development framework.
