According to statistics released today (3 September) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in July 2026. Meanwhile, resident deposits* rose from a month ago whereas loans to residents* posted a decline.
Money supply
Currency in circulation and demand deposits grew 0.8% and 4.0% respectively, M1 thus increased 3.0% from one month earlier. Meanwhile, quasi-monetary liabilities rose 1.4%. The sum of these two items, i.e. M2, rebounded 1.5% to MOP860.5 billion. The shares of Macao pataca (MOP), Hong Kong dollar (HKD), renminbi (RMB) and United States dollar (USD) in M2 were 32.5%, 43.1%, 8.2% and 14.5% respectively.
Deposits
Resident deposits* rose 1.5% from the preceding month to MOP838.0 billion whereas non-resident deposits* dropped 2.1% to MOP371.4 billion. On the other hand, public sector deposits with the banking sector increased 0.3% to MOP270.5 billion. As a result, total deposits in the banking sector grew 0.4% to MOP1,479.9 billion. The shares of MOP, HKD, RMB and USD in total deposits were 18.8%, 44.5%, 9.7% and 25.3% respectively.
Loans
Domestic loans to the private sector* dropped 0.5% from a month ago to MOP473.9 billion. Meanwhile, external loans* decreased 0.7% to MOP559.7 billion. As a result, total loans of the banking sector fell 0.6% to MOP1,033.6 billion. The shares of MOP, HKD, RMB and USD in total loans were 22.2%, 40.2%, 16.1% and 17.5% respectively.
Operating ratios
At end-July 2026, the overall loan-to-deposit ratio decreased from 70.5% at end-June to 69.8%, while the ratio for the resident sector decreased from 43.5% to 42.8%. The one-month and three-month current assets to liabilities ratios stood at 58.6% and 48.9% respectively. Concurrently, the non-performing loan ratio decreased from 4.5% at end-June to 4.4%.
