Cultural Affairs Bureau’s Commissioning Performing Arts Production In Search of the Playwright to be staged at the end of September Local Programme Presentation Session to be held concurrently

In Search of the Playwright

The Cultural Affairs Bureau will present four performances of the interactive play In Search of the Playwright on 26 and 27 September at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium and backstage. Produced by PO Art Studio and directed by Leong Son U, the work is one of the selected productions in the programme “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions 2024-2026”. Tickets are on sale through the Enjoy Macao Ticketing from 12pm on 10 September. During the presentation period, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will host a “Local Programme Presentation Session”, inviting representatives from stage production companies, theatres and arts festivals from Chinese Mainland and neighbouring regions to hold exchanges in Macao. The Session aims to promote original works by Macao’s performing arts industry and explore collaboration opportunities.

Drawing on echoes of past performances, the company looks back at a venue about to go through a fictional change and turns to the public for its assessment. Within this atmosphere, cast and audience search for traces embedded in classic masterpieces, piecing together literary fragments and uncovering what a playwright left behind—examining both the text and the conditions that shape it.

In addition, the “Local Programme Presentation Session” will be held on 27 September, at 4:45pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre. Registration is open to local legally registered associations or companies related to performing arts, or individuals aged 18 or above holding a Macao Resident Identity Card. The Session will be conducted primarily in Mandarin, and no translation will be provided. Each presentation is limited to 5 minutes. Interested parties may download the registration form from the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s website at www.icm.gov.mo from 10am on 11 September to 5pm on 21 September. Completed forms should be submitted via email to cpap@icm.gov.mo. Seats are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The Session is also open to observers. For registration or enquiries, please contact IC through tel. no. 8399 6374 during office hours.
