Exhibition “The Empress Regnant – Wu Zetian and the Divine Capital of Luoyang” opens next Wednesday
In order to promote historical and cultural exchanges between Henan and Macao, and to leverage Macao’s role as a vital window for exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilisations, the exhibition “The Empress Regnant – Wu Zetian and the Divine Capital of Luoyang”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, will be open to the public from 24 September 2026 to 28 February 2027, on the third floor of the Macao Museum. The opening ceremony will be held on 23 September (Wednesday), at 6pm, at the Mount Fortress Garden. Members of the public are welcome to visit.
Featuring a total of 126 pieces/sets of precious artefacts collected from eight cultural and museum institutions in Henan Province, the exhibition is divided into five thematic sections, namely “The Lofty Imperial Palaces”, “A Flourishing of Arts and Ideas”, “A Prosperous and Harmonious Age”, “Eternity of Honour and Sorrow”, and “All under Heaven as One Family”. Through architectural components, inscriptions, gold tablet, sculptures, porcelain and pottery figurines, the exhibition presents the advanced development of urban planning, traditional craftsmanship, religious art, and economic trade during the Tang dynasty, as well as the social atmosphere of multicultural integration and openness to the outside world. To enhance the visiting experience, the exhibition features a Tang-style scene photo area, interactive game installations, and an AI-themed photo booth, allowing the public to experience Tang society and culture in a fun and interactive way.
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the public, the Macao Museum launches the “Under the Clear Night Sky – Mid-Autumn Festival Special Event for the Public”. The Macao Museum and the Mount Fortress Garden will extend their opening hours until 10:30pm on 25 September (Friday), and until 9pm on 26 and 27 September (Saturday and Sunday). During this period, the Mount Fortress Garden will feature Tang-themed decorations, a photo booth, and a pickleball experience zone. Admission to the Macao Museum will be free during the extended opening hours.
In addition, the Macao Museum will hold two sessions of the “Tang Dynasty Costume and Makeup Workshop” on 26 September, followed by two family sessions on 27 September, allowing families to enjoy the beauty of the Tang style. Interested parties can register through the “Activity Applications” of the Macao One Account (activity.mo.gov.mo/activity-h5/activity-list-web) from today until 21 September. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, selection will be made by a random draw. Successful applicants will be notified by SMS.
The Macao Museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm (last admission at 5:30pm), and is closed on Mondays. Admission is free for holders of Macao Resident Identity Card, and the general public on Tuesdays and on the 15th of each month.
