Government Headquarters open to the public this weekend

The Government Headquarters Open Day sessions are this year being held on Saturday (10 October) and Sunday (11 October), from 9am to 6pm.

The theme of this year’s floral arrangements for the Open Day sessions is “Nature in Harmony – A Harmonious Macao”. There will also be a special exhibition on the Third Five-Year Plan of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR). Visiting members of the public can share in the festive atmosphere and enjoy a series of performances by the Public Security Police Force Band, as well as other musical-instrument and dance performances by representatives ofthe Macao Conservatory.

During the Open Day sessions, the public are directed to use the Travessa do Paiva entrance, located at the right-hand of the Protocol Palace as visitors face the front of the main building. Once in the grounds, visitors should follow a designated route, which includes stops at the Multi-purpose Room and the Lotus Room on the ground floor. Via the marble staircase to the first floor, visitors can also explore the Grand Hall, the Green Hall, the Yellow Hall, and the Blue Hall. Visitors will also be able to tour the garden, where there will be large floral arrangements.

This year marks the beginning of Macao’s Third Five-Year Plan. During the Open Day sessions this time, a special exhibition – using videos, photographs and comprehensive textual materials – will be held in the Multi-purpose Room, showcasing the development blueprint of the Third Five-Year Plan, its four major projects, and the work being actively pursued by the MSAR Government to implement the plan.

Additionally, guided tours of the Protocol Palace will be available, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the interior settings of the Grand Hall on the upper floor, and of the building as a whole.

The “Nature in Harmony – A Harmonious Macao” floral arrangements in the grounds will feature more than 20 varieties of flowers, all in full bloom. They will help create a special scene at the Government Headquarters, whereby flowers bloom and butterflies flutter, embodying natural harmony.

The flower displays are in four locations, namely the Protocol Palace front yard, the lawn, the flower pergola, and the Protocol Palace indoor display area. Flowerbeds located on either side of the main entrance to the Protocol Palace feature a motif of gracefully-fluttering colourful butterflies as their central theme. The backdrop of vibrant floral displays and the pink-hued building help create a lively and harmonious scene. Small flowerbeds next to the main ones help route visitors around the grounds, allowing them to experience a sense of natural harmony as they wander among the displays.

In the lawn display area, to highlight the theme of “Nature in Harmony – A Harmonious Macao”, installations featuring motifs of colourful butterflies and small insects are combined with seasonal flowers. The presentation is centred around a giant lotus flower symbolising Macao’s prosperity, and also incorporates mushrooms of various sizes, to create rich layers to the display. Overall, the effect is to construct a delicate and vivid impression of a butterfly-friendly garden, fully showcasing Macao’s harmonious coexistence with nature and its boundless vitality.

The flower pergola, serving as an extension of the lawn display area, also features butterflies as its primary design element. It is adorned with motifs of giant butterflies and moths, alongside a swarm of fluttering little butterflies, complemented by seasonal flowers and greenery to create a natural, rustic butterfly-valley landscape.

In the Protocol Palace indoor display area, the presentation – featuring a backdrop of lush greenery evoking a jungle scene – centres on a giant floral installation, complemented by an array of floral arrangements and butterfly-motif installations, evoking a romantic atmosphere of blossoms and fluttering butterflies.

As well as the live music performances offered at the Open Day sessions, the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will set up a temporary postal counter near Nam Van Lake, offering a commemorative-postmark service and philatelic products related to the Open Day sessions.

To mark the Government Headquarters Open Day sessions, souvenirs will be offered to visitors, while supplies last.

Visitors are advised to exercise care when navigating steps on their visit to the Government Headquarters. Selfie sticks, umbrellas, drinks, and food are all barred from the premises, as are pets.

The public should pay attention to the weather forecast from the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau in advance of their visit. In case of adverse weather, visitors should follow the instructions of the onsite staff.

For the convenience of visitors, special traffic management arrangements relating to part of Travessa do Paiva will be in force during the Open Day sessions. Drivers are urged to pay attention to the temporary traffic signs and follow police advice.
