The 4th ‘Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area High‑Quality Talent Development Conference’ grandly opened on 25 October
The Macao Talent Development Committee organised a delegation to attend the ‘4th Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area High‑Quality Talent Development Conference and the 3rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Doctoral and Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition’ (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Conference’) in Dongguan on 25 October. Through this event, Macao promoted its development opportunities and talent policies, and worked in coordination with the Guangdong and Hong Kong governments to focus on deepening cooperation in the field of talent work, creating a globally competitive environment for talent development, and jointly building the Greater Bay Area into a hub for high-calibre talents.
Organising a delegation of government, social sector and enterprise representatives to participate
The theme of this year’s Conference is ‘Gather Talents in the Greater Bay Area, Create the Future Through Innovation’. It was jointly hosted by the Office of the Talent Work Leading Group of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the Labour and Welfare Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Talent Development Committee of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and the Dongguan Municipal People's Government. Through the ‘integrated presentation of the conference and competition’, it amplified the synergistic effect of ‘gathering talents through conference, stimulating the industry through competition’. To strengthen talent exchanges in the Greater Bay Area, pool talent resources, as well as assemble scientific and technological innovation forces, the Talent Development Committee organised nearly 20 representatives of the government, higher education institutions, social organisations and institutions, as well as enterprises, to attend the event.
Mr Kong Chi Meng, representative of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and Secretary-General of the Talent Development Committee, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, stating that to implement the national strategic deployment, the Macao SAR Government announced its 3rd five-year plan this year, clearly identifying four key projects to promote moderately diversified economic development. The Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town is one of Macao's four key projects and has been incorporated into the national ‘15th Five-Year Plan’. With the strong support of the Central Government, the first phase of the University Town project has been completed with better quality and faster progress, officially launching a new model of extended education. Macao will leverage the University Town platform to introduce international high-quality teaching and research resources, attract global top-tier scientific research talents, and build a virtuous cycle of ‘building on education, empowering through science and technology, and sustaining with talent’, thereby providing support in building Macao into an international hub for high-calibre talents and giving new momentum to the development of the Greater Bay Area as a high-calibre talent hub.
An exhibition on promoting Macao's advantages and opportunities was hosted at the Conference
In the future, Macao will closely align with the national ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ and Macao's ‘3rd Five-Year Plan’, fully leverage Macao's positioning as ‘One Centre, One Platform, One Base’ and ‘One Hub’, and join hands with cities in the Greater Bay Area to attract global talents to gather and develop in the Greater Bay Area. Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao will, as always, collaborate closely to transform the three regions' differentiated resources into institutional advantages for global talent competition, and jointly promote the development of the ‘Greater Bay Area as a High-calibre Talent Hub’.
To effectively promote Macao's talent policies and help talents from all sectors understand Macao's unique advantages and development opportunities, the Talent Development Committee set up a distinctive themed booth at the event site, showcasing advantages covering areas such as career development, quality living, and education for talent cultivation, vividly presenting Macao's favourable environment for attracting and retaining talents. It also introduced the vast development space offered to talents under the integrated development framework of Macao and Hengqin. Within the framework, the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town serves as a key vehicle for promoting the integrated development of education, technology, and talent work, providing development opportunities for talents. The booth also displayed an ‘underwater robot’ that was successfully developed and transformed into a commercial product through a university-based entrepreneurship incubation programme, as well as the outcomes achieved by enterprises that have established operations in Macao in terms of their industrial development within the territory.
The ‘Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area High‑Quality Talent Development Conference’ is a premier talent-focused event, jointly established and hosted on a rotational basis by the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Since its inception in 2023, the Conference has been held successively in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao. It has now become a flagship platform for the three regions to collaborate on attracting, cultivating and utilising talents, as well as an important window for talents from Chinese mainland and overseas to learn about and integrate into the Greater Bay Area.
