Press Release of Consumer Council

Consumer Council's latest specific price survey report on tissue and toilet papers was conducted on 31st March. The current report showed an average price increase of 15% for most tissue brands; price difference of the same brand selling in different retail outlets amounted to 25%. Out of 7 surveyed samples of toilet paper, 5 recorded price increases from 10% to 20% in most retail outlets. Significant price increase, varying from 1.5% to 22%, was observed for 'Aus & New Golden Soft Tissue (10 pcs)' in over 10 surveyed outlets. 'Scott Bathroom Tissue 3 Ply (10 pcs)' also recorded a price upsurge of 20% in one retail spot in Taipa. No significant price increase was observed among tissue papers, though prices of 'Kleenex Brand Tissues (5 boxes)' had risen by 20% in most surveyed outlets. Prices of the 11 surveyed brands varied from 7.5% to 41%; consumers are advised to check with the report for reference. Consumer Council also stated that since prices of different kinds of products fluctuate a lot, consumers are advised not to purchase commodities in bulk.
