The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, has pledged to fully support relief operations in Gansu following earthquakes this morning that claimed more than 80 lives and caused serious injuries to more than 300. Mr Chui has sent a condolence letter to the Central Government today to express concern and sympathy of the people of Macao. Two quakes with a 5.9- and 5.6-magnitude struck in Dingxi in Gansu province at 7:45 am: the shallow epicentres resulted in greater damages.
While relevant government departments and the local government were carrying rescue and relief operations, Mr Chui said the Macao Government would actively participate in relief works and provide full support.
