Health Bureau clarifies that no area in Macao has been classified as endemic

In response to rumours circulating on social media that Praia de Manduco and Ponte e Horta have been classified as endemic areas, the Health Bureau clarifies that no area in Macao has been classified as endemic. However, considering the difficulty in cleaning up accumulated garbage within a short time in certain areas, emergent pest control and disinfection measures were adopted and information leaflets were distributed to residents in the mentioned areas on 24th August in order to minimize the risk of infectious diseases after typhoon “Hato”. In addition, the Health Bureau will continue with the pest control and disinfection measures as well as leaflet distribution in other areas.

The Health Bureau reiterates that inhaling malodour will not cause illness, and appeals to the public not to believe in rumours and avoid falling victim to unnecessary panic. At this difficult time, members of the public should not fabricate false information that arouses social disruption and anxiety; otherwise, criminal liability will be incurred.
