Floats bring New Year blessings into Northern District

The finale show of cultural performances is very popular

The “Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Rooster” was held by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) at Macao Northern District tonight (4 February). Carrying New Year blessings to the district, the floats attracted a multitude of residents and visitors. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Vice President of Sports Bureau, Lam Lin Kio, Acting Vice President of Cultural Affairs Bureau, Kent Ieong Chi Kin, and Head of Department of Civic Affairs and Consultation of Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Patsy Ko Pui San, officiated the kick-off ceremony along with other guests at Rua Norte do Patane at 8 p.m. tonight.

Featuring 14 floats, the Parade commenced at Rua Norte do Patane and marched through Avenida do Conselheiro Borja, Estrada do Arco, Estrada da Areia Preta, Avenida de Venceslau de Morais, Rua Quatro do Bairro da Areia Preta, Avenida da Longevidade, Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon until the finishing point at Iao Hon Market Garden. Auspicious souvenirs were given out to spectators at both the starting and finishing points. Local singers Hyper Lo, Josie Ho and AJ as well as Hong Kong artist Benjamin Yuen dazzled the finale show of cultural performances, winning cheers and applause from spectators.

This year, MGTO and Macao Cultural Heritage Reinventing Studies Association have jointly organized the “Chinese New Year Parade Float Snapshot” Competition to encourage more locals and visitors to upload and share the spectacular scenes of the Parade via social network.

14 auspicious and dazzling floats are showcased at Tap Seac Square from 10 p.m. tonight until 6 p.m. on 12 February. Residents and visitors can enjoy the sight of illuminated floats from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the aforementioned period (till 6pm on 12 February). The floats are presented by the following entities: China National Tourism Administration, Macao Government Tourism Office, Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group, MGM, Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao, Suncity Group, Sociedade de Jogos de Macao, S.A., Wynn Macau, Limited, Guangdong Chimelong Group Company Limited, Multinational Holdings Group, Melco Crown Entertainment and UO Group.

MGTO makes continuous efforts to promote community tourism development and develop a wider diversity of tourism products. Following the mega outdoor celebrations at the central district on the first day of Lunar New year and the first Parade on the third day, MGTO specially arranged the float parade at Macau Northern District as well, encouraging visitors to explore different neighborhoods and experience the charm of Macao.
