Reaching out Advantages of Sino-Portuguese Platform Stay Abreast of New Moves in Domestic and Overseas Economic and Trade Developments Two Concurrent Events Held in October

MIF and PLPEX hold press conference.

The “22nd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (22nd MIF) and “2017 Portuguese-Speaking-Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2017 PLPEX) will be held concurrently from 19th to 21st October 2017 at The Venetian Macao. MIF and PLPEX will join hands with enterprises from Mainland China, overseas and Macao to advance in the “Belt and Road”, “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction” as well as to promote the development of “One Centre, One Platform”, namely “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure” and “Business and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-Speaking-Countries”, and also promote the moderate diversification of Macao’s economy. The press conference is scheduled to take place today (17th) to provide the up-to-date information of the two events.

Organised by Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and co-organised by 15 economic and trade institutions and business associations from Macao, Mainland and Hong Kong, MIF is, once again, themed “Co-operation – Key to Business Opportunities”, with a total area similar to last year. Pavilions have been set up in respect of showcasing countries and regions, in particular for the provinces and regions from the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD), Portuguese-Speaking-Countries, and countries along the “Belt and Road”, as well as a diverse array of themed product zones and industry exhibition areas, covering the “Belt and Road” initiative, “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Construction”, “Platform between Mainland China and Portuguese-Speaking-Countries”, “Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)”, “Cultural and Creative Industry”, “Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Industry”, “Youth Entrepreneurship”, and “E-commerce”. Meanwhile, a number of forums, seminars, product presentations will be held to congregate professionals from different sectors to discuss co-operation opportunities and encourage enterprises to “Go Global” and “Bring in Investments”, thereby expanding market and development links.

Economic and Trade Forums for “Partner Country” and “Partner Province” Held on The Opening Day

MIF, the first event in Macao approved by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) in October 2005, has attracted the attention and recognition of international exhibition institutions. This year, more than 1,000 enterprises and organisations from over 50 countries and regions will be participating in MIF. For the first time, MIF has invited Angola and Guangdong as its “Partner Country” and “Partner Province” respectively, in depth integration of hosting the “Angola, Guangdong and Macao Trade and Investment Forum”, as well as to establish the Angola Pavilion and Guangdong Pavilion. Jointly organised by Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports of Angola, Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the Forum has invited representatives of governments and renowned enterprises of the three regions to showcase the most up-to-date economic and trade environment and investment policies of the respective country and region, analysing the co-operation perspectives between Portuguese-speaking-Countries, Mainland China and Macao in view of assisting entrepreneurs and investors to explore business opportunities.

PLPEX Staged as Unique Event to Showcase Advantages of Sino-Portuguese Platform

To further strengthen the role of Macao as Business and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between Mainland China and Portuguese speaking-Countries, PLPEX, after two years of experience as an event within MIF, is staged as unique event held concurrently with MIF this year.

Organised by IPIM, 2017 PLPEX occupies an exhibition area of 3,000 square meters, attracting over 210 institutions and enterprises from the Portuguese-Speaking-Countries as well as registered users and professional service providers via the “Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”. Since the inception as unique event, PLPEX enhanced in terms of size and professional services, making full complement of Macao to develop “Three Centres” (namely a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure” and a “Business and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between Mainland China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”), facilitating enterprises from Mainland China and Portuguese-Speaking-Countries for better communication and co-operation. In respect of the exhibition, PLPEX is divided into four main categories, including Exhibition Area of Governments/Trade Promotion Organisations and Trade Associations, Exhibition Area of Food and Beverage, Exhibition Area of Non-Food and Beverage, and Exhibition Area of Service.

The concurrent events of MIF and PLPEX will provide a number of forums and product presentations showcasing the advantages of the Sino-Portuguese platform, promote regional economic and trade networking and co-operation, and assist enterprises to explore business opportunities. Apart for the first time to co-organize “Cambodia Trade, Investment & Tourism Development Forum” with Cambodia, a country along the Belt and Road, on the second day, MIF also features the “Mainland China and Portuguese Speaking Countries SMEs Investment and Trade Matching Event” in order to provide tailor-made and integrated finance service solutions to solve financial problems during negotiation process.

In order to assist exhibitors to seek for co-operation partners, promote their products/services and expand their business, MIF and PLPEX will continue to provide exhibitors with an array of free business matching and negotiation services, covering procurement matching, brand agency, via the use of “Online Business Matching Service Platform” which provides an integrated business matching service in between for pavilions, designated sessions and delegations to enhance the overall effectiveness for market exploration.

“MACAO MICE PASS” Introduced in the First Time to Promote Green Exhibition Development

MIF and PLPEX are open to professional visitors on 19th October and to the public on 20th and 21st October. During the events, free shuttle bus service will be provided between the exhibition venue and several locations in the northern district, central and Taipa to encourage green commuting and promote social economy. This year, “MACAO MICE PASS” has been newly introduced for the first time and designated for the trial implementation of government departments, leaders and representatives of MIF co-organisers in order to promote the development of green exhibition and reduce the waste use of resources. Furthermore, during and after the events, IPIM will organise exhibitors from Mainland China and overseas to visit Zhuhai and Zhongshan, as well as organize tours for delegations to visit the local community of Macao in order to boost our community economy.
