“Macao ‧ Hengqin Craft Market” inaugurated today

The “Macao ‧ Hengqin Craft Market”, jointly organised by the Livelihood Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), is held at Ponto Legend Square in Hengqin from 29 February to 3 March. The event features nearly 100 stalls of cultural and creative products by entities from Macao and various provinces and cities in Mainland China. All are welcome to participate.


Transport and communications statistics for January 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 251,183 as at end-January 2024, up by 0.6% year-on-year; light automobiles (116,298) and heavy motorcycles (108,836) rose by 1.9% and 0.6% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in January grew by 68.9% year-on-year to 1,324 (including 438 electric vehicles). There were 718 light automobiles (169 of them were electric) and 417 heavy motorcycles (100 of them were electric), representing year-on-year increases of 109.3% and 6.4% respectively. Number of traffic accidents in January climbed by 26.0% year-on-year to 1,351, with 1 person killed and 465 persons injured.


IAM launches “General Regulations Governing Public Places” Electronic Defense Service

To complement the development of electronic governance and provide more convenient service for the public, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will launch “General Regulations Governing Public Places” Electronic Defense Service from 1 March. The public or entities can make defense to the penalty procedures initiated due to violations of the “General Regulations Governing Public Places” via Macao One Account or Business & Associations Platform on their own or by a representative.


External merchandise trade statistics for January 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that external merchandise trade totalled MOP13.59 billion in January 2024, up by 19.9% compared with MOP11.34 billion a year earlier. Total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.13 billion, up by 22.1% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP985 million) rose by 18.2%, of which re-exports of Footwear and Diamond & diamond jewellery surged by 155.7% and 71.5% respectively, while those of Articles for casino and Wine declined by 85.4% and 39.7% respectively. Value of domestic exports (MOP141 million) increased by 58.7%, of which domestic exports of Bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits & other bakers' wares soared by 183.2%, while those of Copper & articles thereof reduced by 34.4%. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went up by 19.7% year-on-year to MOP12.47 billion; imports of Articles for casino and Construction materials leapt by 264.7% and 103.9% respectively, whereas imports of Mobile phones and Watches decreased by 45.5% and 10.2%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP11.34 billion in January.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for January 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 141 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in January 2024, an increase of 16 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 20.4% to 46,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms went up by 14.5 percentage points year-on-year to 85.9%; the rates for hotels of various star ratings all exceeded 80%, with the rates for 5-star (87.2%), 4-star (84.0%) and 3-star hotels (83.8%) rising by 16.7 percentage points, 14.0 percentage points and 7.0 percentage points respectively.


Celebrate Women’s Day at MNN: Flower arranging workshop open for registration

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) is organising “In the Name of Flowers: MNN Goddess Day Flower Arranging Workshop” at Macau New Neighbourhood’s (MNN) sales centre in Hengqin on 8-9 March (Friday and Saturday) to show appreciation for women’s contribution to the family and society, wishing all women in Macau a happy Women’s Day. People who are interested in joining the workshop can sign up now, online registration begins today until 6 March (Wednesday).


Security Secretary: Crime prevention collective effort across the community

The Secretary for Security, Mr Wong Sio Chak, today said Macao’s full-year 2023 crime-case statistics as recorded by the police were higher than 2022’s but lower than in 2019, a period before the COVID-19 pandemic.
