The “2nd Galaxy Entertainment Group Macao International Shorts Film Festival” is calling for local entries to the “Macao Shorts” section
In order to encourage local film production talent, build a repository of local short films, and expand opportunities for international exchange and collaboration, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and the Galaxy Entertainment Group jointly organise the “2nd Galaxy Entertainment Group Macao International Shorts Film Festival” (hereinafter referred to as the “GEG Macao International Shorts Film Festival”). The call for Macao short films is now open until 21 July. All Macao residents are invited to submit their works, and winners can receive a trophy and cash prize up to MOP45,000.

Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale opens at West Exhibition Hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing
Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and presented by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and the China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd., the“Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale”is held from 18 June to 13 July at theWest Exhibition Hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, showcasing the contemporary cultural landscapes and artistic spirits of the three regions.

UM holds international symposium on biomedical sciences
The 11th Macau Symposium on Biomedical Sciences (MSBS), organised by the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the University of Macau (UM) and co-organised by UMTEC Limited, kicked off today (20 June) at UM. The two-day symposium, themed ‘Scientific Impact’, features 35 presentations. It has brought together over 400 experts, researchers, and students in biomedical sciences from around the world to explore innovations and future developments in the field.

IAM continues to protect the health of mountain forest on Guia Hill
To protect the health of the forest area on Guia Hill, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) carried out vine removal and forest protection work in phases section by section in Guia Hill Municipal Park starting from mid-March. In addition to vine removal, plants with poor growth and domestic garbage have also been handled. The phases have been completed in late May. IAM will continue to carry out relevant forest protection work and slow the growth of vines, so as to safeguard the health of the mountain forest on Guia Hill.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for May 2025 rose by 0.19% year-on-year but dropped by 0.05% month-on-month. For the 12 months ended May this year, the average Composite CPI grew by 0.38% from the previous period (June 2023 – May 2024).

Visitor arrivals for May 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals increased by 25.3% year-on-year to 3,372,081 in May 2025. Same-day visitors (1,992,296) and overnight visitors (1,379,785) rose by 39.2% and 9.4% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors decreased by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, due to the growth in the proportion of same-day visitors in the total number of visitors. The duration of stay for same-day visitors (0.2 day) and overnight visitors (2.3 days) both remained unchanged.

AACM conducts dangerous goods instructor training to support industry’s professional development
From June 16 to 20, 2025, the Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) held a five-daycourse entitled “Competency-Based Training for Dangerous Goods Instructors” which aimed to train local personnel in Macao’s aviation industry, enhancing their qualifications to serve as dangerous goods training instructors. This will enable them to assist in educating the other local aviation professionals on the specialized knowledge required for the safe handling and the transport of dangerous goods by air.

Macao with good results on its debut in the Global Muslim Travel Index to help attract more visitors
Macao was included for the first time this year on the world-leading Global Muslim Travel Index 2025 (GMTI) published by CrescentRating and Mastercard, with the destination’s efforts to cater for this travel segment recognized. The GMTI 2025 ranks Macao fifth globally in the Muslim women-friendly travel destination category, 16th in the overall ranking as a Muslim-friendly destination and as one of the top Muslim-friendly accessible destinations, all among the non-Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) destinations.

UTM held 2025 Graduation Ceremony, 367 Graduates embark on new journey
On 19 June, the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) held its 2025 graduation ceremony at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. A total of 367 graduates from doctoral degree, master’s degree, postgraduate diploma, and bachelor’s degree programmes were awarded their certificates. This year’s ceremony was particularly significant as it coincided with the 30th anniversary of the UTM’s establishment.
