This sharing session aims to give a voice to Macao interns who undertook internships at the Palace Museum in Beijing during the summer, enabling the younger generation to play an active role in promoting traditional Chinese culture. By presenting original videos and first-hand accounts, participants will share their learning journeys, the valuable experience they have gained, and their reflections on the exchange visits they undertook. The session will focus in particular on the Palace Museum’s achievements and expertise in cultural heritage conservation and restoration, museum exhibition planning and design, as well as museum communication and visitor services. It is hoped that the event will provide young people and the wider public in Macao with a deeper understanding of the Palace Museum’s culture as far as preservation, innovation and promotion are concerned, while fostering greater interest in and appreciation of outstanding Chinese culture.

This year, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Palace Museum jointly organised the ‘Hong Kong-Macao Youth Internship Programme at Palace Museum 2026’, with the aim of deepening young people’s understanding of China’s outstanding traditional culture, strengthening their cultural identity and sense of national belonging, nurturing young talent for the future development of the cultural sector, and promoting exchanges and cooperation between young people in Hong Kong and Macao. Under the guidance of the Palace Museum’s specialists and scholars, the Macao interns undertook in-depth training across more than ten specialised departments, including the Department of Paintings and Calligraphy, the Department of Objects and Decorative Arts, the Department of Court History, the Department of Ancient Architecture, the World Cultural Heritage Monitoring Department, the Cultural Relics Protection and Technology Department, the Archaeology Department, the Exhibition Department, the Department of Publicity and Education, the Communications Department, the Department of Visitor Services, as well as The Palace Museum Cultural Development Co., Ltd., the Library, and the Archive (Museum History Exhibition Hall). During their time in Beijing, the interns gained first-hand insight into the Palace Museum’s successful practices in cultural heritage conservation, exhibition curation and museum management, obtaining valuable reference information for the future development of Macao’s museum sector. At the same time, the programme enabled young people from Macao and Hong Kong to forge lasting friendships through exchange, highlighting the positive outcomes of cooperation and integration between the youth of the two regions.
