33rd Macao International Music Festival officially opens

The 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), kicked off with the opera in two acts The Magic Flute. The opening ceremony was held on 4 October, at 7:40pm, at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Xue Xiaofeng; the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Shen Beili; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Acting Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Hoi Io Meng; the Deputy General Manager of Bank of China (Macau Branch), Chan Hio Peng; the Member of Executive Committee of Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., Lorman, Lo Song Man; the Assistant to Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Corporate Quality Division of Air Macau Company Limited, Wen Dexin; the Senior Vice President of Special Projects, Product Strategy and Development of Sands China Ltd., Julian Chow; the Director of Service Delivery of Cotai Water Jet, Mr. Charles Ratnasingam and the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man.

The theme of this year’s Festival is “The Instrumentalist”, offering 17 programmes and a total of 22 excellent performances. The opening performance, the opera in two acts The Magic Flute is staged in Macao from 4 to 6 October. Produced by the Komische Oper Berlin and British theatre group “1927”, this innovative opera production blends film animation and live singing and makes a breakthrough in the traditional operatic presentation. Trio Mediaeval from Norway presents the concerts Aquilonis and Folk Songs at the Dom Pedro V Theatre at 8pm on 5 and 6 October, respectively,allowing music aficionados to indulge in the world of vocal music.

This edition of the Festival specially launches exquisite piano cushion, with its design elements dedicated to the theme of “The Instrumentalist”, bringing music close to life and allowing the public to enjoy the beauty of music. The souvenirs are available for sale, subject to availability, during the performance period at the Macao Cultural Centre, Dom Pedro V Theatre, Mandarin’s House, Taipa Houses Amphitheatre and University of Macau Library Plaza.

In addition, “The Charm of Musical Instruments” prize game is launched from today to 30 October on the MIMF website. Participates who visit the game interface on the 33rd MIMF’s official website, pair the musical instruments with the programme correctly and fill in their personal details, will stand a chance to win fabulous prizes in a lucky draw.
