CTT Ensures Smooth Transition as Hutchison Exits Macao’s Mobile Market

The Macao SAR Government has received formal notification from Hutchison Telecommunications (Macao) Limited (“Hutchison”) of its decision to voluntarily surrender its 4G mobile telecommunications license and cease all mobile services in Macao effective from 1 December 2026. This is a commercial decision made by the company based on its own operational circumstances. To protect user rights and ensure service continuity, the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) has required Hutchison to develop a comprehensive transition plan and will closely supervise the entire migration process in accordance with applicable regulations, ensuring a stable and orderly service handover.

Hutchison has reached an agreement with Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau, S.A. (“CTM”)to facilitate the transfer of its users to CTM’s network with users’ confirmation. During the transition period, Hutchison will maintain basic communication services and continue to provide customer support through its own service outlets, CTM service centres, and services hotlines.

CTT will closely monitor the entire process, urging Hutchison to fully fulfil its social responsibilities, ensure a smooth transition for users, protect employees’ legal rights, and minimize any impact on the public. Meanwhile, CTT urges affected users to monitor Hutchison’s official announcements, understand the transition arrangements, select a suitable service provider based on their own needs, and complete the necessary procedures at their earliest convenience to ensure uninterrupted access to mobile services.
