Press Release of Consumer Council

Consumer Council will expand its 'No Plastic Bag Day' to 18th and 28th of each month starting this April. Consumers and shop owners are called on to support not only on those two days but also bring their own bags when shopping. 'No Plastic Bag Day' was established in 2008 to arouse public's attention to reduce the use of plastic bag; supermarkets under the Council's 'Certified Shops' and 'Adherents' mechanism offer no plastic bag to consumers on 28th of each month. A survey on the evaluation of 'No Plastic Bag Day' was conducted last year and the result showed that most consumers and 'Certified Shops' and 'Adherents' interviewed agreed to increase the number of days of the monthly 'No Plastic Bag Day'; bringing their own bags had also become a habit of some consumers. Starting this month, 'No Plastic Bag Day' will include one more day to the monthly campaign. On 18th and 28th each month, consumers, 'Certified Shops' and 'Adherents' well as other retailers are called on to support and participate in the campaign for the protection of our environment. 'No Plastic Bag Day' is supported by Environmental Protection Bureau.
