Company statistics for the 1st quarter of 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,046 new companies were incorporated in the first quarter of 2020, a decrease of 567 year-on-year. Newly incorporated companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and Business Services totalled 432 and 297 respectively. Total value of registered capital fell by 80.0% year-on-year to MOP249 million. Companies in dissolution totalled 156 in the first quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP15 million.


Monetary and financial statistics – March 2020

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply continued to fall in March with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, resident deposits dropped from a month ago whereas loans to residents posted an increase.


MGTO launches online learning videos for catering professionals to enhance expertise

Starting today (5 May), Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is launching online learning videos in a range of series tailored for catering professionals to gain deeper knowledge about occupational safety, hospitality skills and more. The videos enable continuing education and knowledge enrichment, which catering professionals can leverage conveniently during the pandemic to enhance their competitiveness at work, thus advancing catering service quality in Macao and its development as a Creative City of Gastronomy.



Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the 1st quarter of 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers increased by 3.3% quarter-to-quarter to MOP720 in the first quarter of 2020. The average daily wage of non-resident construction workers (MOP607) edged up by 0.5%, while that of local construction workers (MOP942) dropped by 1.8%.


UM’s third batch of SME training courses open for registration tomorrow

During the epidemic, the University of Macau (UM) launched a series of training courses for owners and employees of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Macao. The courses have been very well received and the quotas were quickly filled. The four courses in the first and second batch have already started. Due to popular demand, UM has decided to launch a new batch of SME training courses, namely Tourism Hospitality Management and Gaming Industry Development, and Food and Beverage Management in Tourism Industry, which will be open for registration from 5 May to 10 May. Both courses were originally priced at MOP 3, 900, and are now offered for free. Quotas are limited, and applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Macao identity card holders who are working in a SME (proof of employment is required for registration) will be given priority for admission.
