Cultural Affairs Bureau presented Macao’s diverse publications and cultural and creative brands at the 35th Hong Kong Book Fair
The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and the Macao Foundation jointly set up the “Macao Pavilion” again at the 35th Hong Kong Book Fair, held from 16 to 22 July, introducing Macao’s high-quality publications to readers from Hong Kong and other regions, and showcasing the city’s unique cultural essence. In response to the theme of this year’s Book Fair “Food Culture・Future Living”, IC specially hosted a lecture titled The Making of Macau’s Fusion Cuisine: From Family Table to World Stage, conducted by the author, Dr Annabel Jackson, who obtained a Doctorate in the Sociology of Gastronomy from Goldsmiths, the University of London, with the participation of the translators of the book, Stephanie Li and Swallow Xu.

IAM tests non-locally produced packaged drinking water Two in 240 samples fail due to detection of microorganisms
The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continuously steps up inspection efforts of barrelled and bottled drinking water to safeguard the food safety of consumers. A random sampling inspection was previously carried out for non-locally produced and packaged drinking water. 240 samples were taken from major wholesalers, supermarkets and convenience stores in Macao for microbiological tests, which covered 42 brands and 48 different batches of barrelled and bottled water from various countries and regions. Among the 240 samples, one barrelled water and one bottled water did not pass the microbiological tests. IAM immediately ordered the retailers and wholesalers concerned to stop the sale, and to recall and destroy the products of the batches involved. The public who have the relevant products are advised to stop drinking them.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for the first half of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments rose by 5.1 percentage points year-on-year to 89.1% in the first half of 2025, while the number of inbound package tour visitors decreased by 2.3% to 963,000.

External merchandise trade statistics for the first half of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that external merchandise trade totalled MOP67.20 billion in the first half of 2025, down by 4.3% compared to the same period last year. Total value of merchandise exports increased by 0.3% year-on-year to MOP6.63 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP5.91 billion) grew by 0.6% while value of domestic exports (MOP714 million) decreased by 1.9%. Total value of merchandise imports dropped by 4.8% year-on-year to MOP60.57 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP53.95 billion in the first half of 2025, down by MOP3.07 billion from the same period last year (MOP57.02 billion).

GMBPF Facilitates Cross-border Co-operation with Enterprises Planning to Expand Businesses in Macao and Hengqin
The 2025 Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair (2025GMBPF), jointly organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, came to a successful conclusion on 27 July. The four-day event attracted over 100,000 visitors. Notably, the first day of the event, designated as “Trade Visitor Day”, attracted more than 2,000 entrepreneurs and buyers.
