Tap Siac Craft Market is inaugurated, gathering creative power of different regions

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), the Tap Siac Craft Market is held from 15 to 17 November and from 22 to 24 November at Tap Siac Square. The Craft Market features a diversity of cultural and creative activities including cultural and creative booths, handicraft workshops, music performances and creative food stalls. All are welcome to participate and experience the creative power of different regions.



UM provides full study-related assistance to Macao students returning from Hong Kong

For students from Macao who are currently studying at higher education institutions in Hong Kong and wish to return to Macao to study, UM will provide full assistance to make sure that these students’ studies are not discontinued. The university will immediately provide different forms of assistance according to individual circumstances, such as arranging for the students to audit the classes, giving them access to learning resources, or arranging faculty tutoring. In addition, UM has established a task force and has launched enquiry hotlines for returning students and their parents. Rao Zihe to give talk at UM on African swine fever virus

The University of Macau (UM) on 20 November (next Wednesday) will hold a lecture titled ‘The Architecture of African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) and the Implications for Viral Assembly and Vaccine Design’. Rao Zihe, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a renowned biophysicist and structural biologist, will be the keynote speaker. During the talk, Rao will share with the audience the latest developments in the studies of ASFV’s architecture, the implications for viral assembly, as well as vaccine design for ASFV. The talk will be open to the public. All are welcome.



Private sector construction and real estate transactions for the 3rd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 3,010 building units and parking spaces were purchased and sold in the third quarter of 2019 as per Stamp Duty record, and the total value of transactions was MOP17.48 billion, down by 16.2% and 12.8% respectively quarter-to-quarter.


CCAC completed investigation of report against Director of Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau

In June 2019, the CCAC received a report from “workers of the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau”, who mentioned a number of irregular acts carried out by Mi Jian as the Director of the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau (DSEPDR) and as the Chief of the former Policy Research Office and requested for the CCAC’s investigation. Following the investigation, the CCAC considered that most of the allegations mentioned in the report were unable to be substantiated or did not constitute a violation of law. However, the DSEPDR has hired workers without going through open recruitment processes. Such practices did not accord with the principles of fairness and openness set up in the legal regime of recruitment of public servants of the Macao SAR.


CCAC completed investigation of employment of translators/interpreters from the Chinese Mainland by the Supporting Office to the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries

In June 2019, the Association of Synergy of Macao filed a report to the CCAC indicating that the Supporting Office to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (GASPF) had hired five people from the Chinese mainland as translators/interpreters under labour contract, raising doubts on violation of the provisions that require priority to be given to local candidates. The association requested the CCAC to investigate the legality of the employment.


Prof Liu Jianhong re-elected president of Scientific Commission of International Society for Criminology

Liu Jianhong, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Sociology, University of Macau (UM), who is also the associate dean (research) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, has been re-elected president of the Scientific Commission of the International Society for Criminology (ISC) during the organisation’s 19th World Congress. Prof Liu will serve a five-year term from 2019 to 2024.
