MPI Releases “CPE Glossary of Prevention and Control of Coronavirus”
In view of the outbreak of COVID-19, the Macao Polytechnic Institute Engineering Research Centre of Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence Technologies, Ministry of Education, pays special attention to the development as well as the prevention and control of epidemics. Having comprehensively organized the big data in the field of epidemic prevention and control, MPI has published the “Chinese-Portuguese-English Glossary of Prevention and Control of Coronavirus” to the anti-pandemic work carrying out in Macao and worldwide. Macao residents and people from all walks of life are welcome to access and use this Chinese-Portuguese-English glossary.

UM develops new technology to enhance cancer precision medicine
A research team in the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), led by Associate Professor Yuan Zhen, has made significant progress in optical molecular imaging and precision medicine for cancer treatment. The team has developed an efficient strategy to prepare ultra-small organic polymer probes for second near-infrared (NIR-II) photoacoustic imaging-guided cancer diagnostic tests and phototherapy. The study paves the way for clinical applications of organic semiconductor nanoprobes, and has been published in the authoritative international journal Advanced Functional Materials (Impact Factor: 15.621).

Macao Museum of the Cultural Affairs Bureau extends the exhibition “A Pearl of the Sea” until 2 August
In order to “fight the pandemic with culture” and allow more time for the public to visit, the Macao Museum of the Cultural Affairs Bureau has extended the exhibition “A Pearl of the Sea – Exhibition of Macao’s Urban Evolution” until 2 August. Through this exhibition visitors may get to know in depth Macao’s extraordinary achievements at all levels over the last two decades since the handover.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – March 2020
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP176.6 billion (USD22.11 billion) at the end of March 2020. The reserves decreased by 2.3% from the revised value of MOP180.7 billion (USD22.50 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-March 2020 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 81.1% of pataca M2 at end-February 2020.

UM allows free access to UM-CAT to show support for small- and medium-sized enterprises during epidemic
In order to support small- and medium-sized enterprises in Macao during the epidemic, the University of Macau (UM) now allows free access to its UM-CAT, an online Chinese-Portuguese-English computer-aided translation platform. The platform can produce professional and smart full-text translation with a high degree of accuracy and is suitable for handling a large amount of translation projects involving Chinese, English, and Portuguese to improve translation efficiency. Those who are interested should email to nlp2ct@um.edu.mo to request free access to the system.

Applications for the 38th Macao Young Musicians Competition end soon
The applications for the 38th Macao Young Musicians Competition, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) are now open until 21 April, at 7pm. Tourist price index (TPI) for the 1st quarter of 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the first quarter of 2020 went down by 1.05% year-on-year to 136.47, on account of lower hotel room rates and falling prices of handbags and ladies’ clothing; yet, rising charges for restaurant services and dearer prices of jewellery offset part of the decrease. Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of Clothing & Footwear (-13.53%) and Accommodation (-5.79%) recorded notable year-on-year decline, while the indices of Miscellaneous Goods (+5.05%), Transport & Communications (+4.46%) and Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+3.98%) increased.
