Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 4th quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors in the fourth quarter of 2019 dropped by 11.8% year-on-year to MOP16.24 billion; total spending of overnight visitors (MOP12.57 billion) declined by 16.0% while that of same-day visitors (MOP3.67 billion) went up by 6.1%. For the whole year of 2019, total spending of visitors amounted to MOP64.08 billion, down by 8.0% year-on-year; total spending of overnight visitors (MOP49.96 billion) fell by 11.2% whereas that of same-day visitors (MOP14.12 billion) rose by 5.0%.

With effect from noon tomorrow (26th February), individuals who have been to South Korea are subject to 14-day medical observation in quarantine
In light of the sudden spike of COVID-19 cases in South Korea in recent days, in order to step up prevention, the MSAR Government has decided that starting from 12:00 tomorrow (26th February), individuals who have been to South Korea within 14 days prior to entering Macao must, at the discretion of the health authorities, undergo medical observation for 14 days at a designated venue in Macao, without prejudice to other epidemic prevention measures initiated by the MSAR Government or the health authorities.

Government committed to assist homecoming of Macao residents still in Hubei
The Government is considering all reasonable options in order to bring home Macao residents that are currently in Hubei Province. The Government is looking at the matter starting from the premise that any solution must be in full compliance with Hubei Province’s disease-control measures.

Special arrangement for money transfer service of Western Union in Macao Postal Savings from 26th to 28th February 2020
CTT Macao would like to inform that the distribution hour of the current-day walk-in quota for money transfer service of Western Union in Macao Postal Savings, situated in San Ma Lou (Av. Almeida Ribeiro), during 26th to 28th February 2020, will change to start at 09:00, with limited quota distributing in a “first-come-first-serve” basis each day and no advance booking. The service hour continues to be 12:00 to 17:00.

DSEJ strongly urges:Say No to Pranks
Following the extremely dangerous “Tripping Jump Challenge” game that has gone viral earlier, there is a new prank circulatingon the Internet that some foreign teenagers use scarves to trip over others and cause others to lose balance and fall to the ground. The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (the DSEJ) reminds that related behaviours may cause physical or head injuries, or even death, and lead to extremely serious consequences. Because of this, the DSEJ strongly urges young people and students not to imitate nor participate in related pranks. If such game is found undergoing, teachers and parents should immediately stop it to ensure students’ safety and should strengthen the education for the students to let them understand the dangers of such pranks.Students and teenagersare advised to think twice before doing anything and assess the possible risks caused by such behaviours. Do not do any acts which may cause serious injuries to oneself or to others because of fun.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – January 2020
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP179.9 billion (USD22.47 billion) at the end of January 2020. The reserves increased by 0.9% from the revised value of MOP178.2 billion (USD22.21 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-January 2020 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 85.4% of pataca M2 at end-December 2019.

FSS to Open Offices at Tap Seac and Edf. China Civil Plaza Next Week to Provide Basic Services
Starting 24th February, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will open its temporary office at Tap Seac and its office on 13th floor of Edf. China Civil Plaza at NAPE, to handle services made by residents’ appointments. However, as it is still in an important period of epidemic prevention, it is recommended that residents should stay at home and handle their services by electronic means. The FSS also reminded that the deadline for payment of contributions for the fourth quarter of 2019, the employment fee for non-resident workers, and contributions of casual workers for December 2019 and January 2020 has been extended to 16th March.
