The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Ms Chan Hoi Fan, said on Monday (18 March) that it was expected an agreement between Macao and Portugal on the surrender of fugitives wanted by one or other of the two jurisdictions would be signed this year. Issues regarding the surrender of sentenced persons from Macao to mainland China and vice versa are still being negotiated.

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 18 March for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in São Lázaro and São Lourenço Parishes. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.

Organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the exhibition “ Strolling and Feeling: Watercolour Paintings of Lai Ieng” will be inaugurated on Friday, 22 March, at 6:30pm, at the special exhibition room on the 3^rd floor of MAM. The exhibition features 32 landscape watercolours by Macao’s contemporary painter Lai Ieng, in the hope that audience will be able to follow his sketching footprints, discover the beauty of scenic alleys in the city and the charm of local life, and feel Macao’s unique cultural heritage and optimistic spirit through his keen observations and subtle brushstrokes. All are welcome to attend.

On 19 March, it marks the 20^th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) of the Cultural Affairs Bureau. On occasion of the 20^th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China and the 20^th anniversary of the Macao Museum of Art this year, the Museum specially organizes a series of events and activities, including large-scale thematic exhibitions, publication of an album of works selected from its collections, promotion of the “Youth Internship Programme at Palace Museum” and a series of thematic talks and promotional activities in arts education. All are welcome to participate.

In December 2016, when attending the hearing at the Court of Final Appeal due to the prosecution of a number of charges against him, the former Prosecutor General Ho Chio Meng pointed out that a few relatives of some officials were employed by the Office of the Prosecutor General. He went further that both the former Secretary for Administration and Justice, Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, and the incumbent Secretary for Administration and Justice, Sónia Chan Hoi Fan, made phone calls to him and recommended the employment of their relatives by the Office of the Prosecutor General. Soon after Ho Chio Meng’s remarks were reported by the media, the CCAC received complaint letters. Therefore, pursuant to Law no. 10/2000, Organic Law of the Commission Against Corruption of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the CCAC carried out an investigation into the matter.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) marked their presence in the 23rd Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from 18th to 21st March, once again co-running a Macao Pavilion and bringing a delegation of film and television industry professionals to the event to showcase Macao as an ideal backdrop for films, foster exchange between local and international film and television industry professionals as well as widen publicity for the 4th International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao.

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented the concert “Azzolini and Lu Jia”, part of the Shining Virtuosos series, on 15 March, at the St. Dominic’s Church. Under the baton of Music Director Lu Jia, the Orchestra joined hands with internationally renowned bassoonist Sergio Azzolini, a winner of numerous international awards, to perform a repertoire of famous classics, which won high acclaim and an enthusiastic applause from the audience. The Macao Orchestra specially organized the “Master Class with Sergio Azzolini” prior to the concert, in which the participants considered personal coaching by the master in the session to be very instructive.
