Consumer Council released specific price survey results on diapers, OTC drugs, and milk powder

Consumer Council conducted its specific price survey on diapers, over-the-counter drugs, and milk powder on 25 May for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Results of the mentioned survey has been uploaded to the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), it is also available on the Council’s “Posto das Informações de Preços em Macau” iPhone and Android apps, as well as on the Council’s WeChat account page.



Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 1st quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors was MOP16.42 billion in the first quarter of 2018, up by 22.0% year-on-year. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2017, total visitor spending dropped by 9.7% due to the decline in number of visitor arrivals and their per-capita spending. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP12.68 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP3.74 billion) increased by 19.6% and 30.7% respectively year-on-year.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in Taipa and Coloane area

Consumer Council conducted its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 24 May for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 12 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane area.


UM Department of Portuguese produces first PhD thesis on literary translation

Zhang Jianbo, a PhD student from the Department of Portuguese, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), recently completed an oral defense for his thesis titled ‘Translation of Jorge Amado’s Works in China: A Study about the Relation between Translation and Power’, becoming the Portuguese department’s first PhD graduate in literary translation.





Cultural Affairs Bureau hosts various activities to celebrate “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day”

In response to the “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” on 9 June 2018 (Saturday), the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is going to hold a series of exciting activities, including the highlighted programme “Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival” to be held at the Mandarin’s House and Lilau Square for two consecutive days. The Carnival also features a variety of activities, such as concerts, exhibitions, talks, courses, as well as free visits to the Guia Lighthouse, the Chinese Ancient and Rare Books Chamber at Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and the Macao Museum, thus raising the public awareness of Macao’s cultural heritage comprehensively.
