UM holds English Festival X to enhance students’ English skills
The English Language Centre (ELC) of the Faulty of Arts and Humanity (FAH), University of Macau (UM), recently held the ‘English Festival X,’ which attracted many UM students. Participants say the festival improved their English language skills and boosted their confidence when using English.

Inauguration of “Women Artists – 1st International Biennial of Macao” on 8 March
Jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and Albergue SCM, the exhibition “Women Artists – 1st International Biennial of Macao” was inaugurated today (8 March), on the 3rd floor of the MAM, featuring 142 works from the 1970’s up to the present created by 132 women artists from 22 countries and regions, including paintings, silkscreen printings, drawings, sculptures, installations and videos, among others. The exhibition aims to record and present the creative trajectories and achievements of female artists during this period, as well as to introduce the achievements of female artists from varied ethnic and educational backgrounds and their pursuit of multiple aesthetics, in particular those artists that left their footprints in the artistic journey of the 21st century. The biennial is open until May 13.

MIECF Connects Local Enterprises to Global Green Innovation Trends
The 2018 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2018 MIECF) is to be held from April 12 to 14. MIECF – now in its 11th edition – has won the full support of local and international environment protection industries. Representatives of local companies which have effectively expanded their businesses through the attendance at last year’s MIECF consider the event an important platform for international green exchange and co-operation. According to them, MIECF has become an increasingly prominent platform in the environment protection sector and offers participants obstacle-free access to the latest international breakthroughs in the field.

UM professor appointed editor-in-chief of authoritative literary journal
Zhu Shoutong, deputy director of the University of Macau (UM) Centre for Chinese History and Culture and Distinguished Professor from UM’s Department of Chinese Language and Literature, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Literatures in Chinese published by Shantou University. It is the first time that Shantou University has appointed an external scholar as the editor-in-chief of the publication. It is also the first time that a scholar outside of mainland China has been appointed to this position.

Convention Organisers Acknowledge Macao’s MICE Advantages and Expand Team Building via Experiencing Chinese-Portuguese Culture
As an emerging industry, Convention and Exhibition (commonly known as MICE) Industry has been steadily developing with a strategy of “prioritising conventions” in recent years. At the beginning of 2018, various conventions – from annual conference of animal nutrition product company involving hundreds of attendees, to software developer’s conference sizing thousands of participants of and medical equipment company, and even the conferences of medicine and healthcare company and internationally renowned enterprises that are expecting tens of thousands of participants – have set Macao as their business events destination. Most of the organisers expressed their recognition of Macao’s well-developed facilities for MICE and its reputation as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. Some of them even developed the combination of team building and in-depth experience of Macao by arranging for event attendees to visit different communities in Macao, assigning tasks for attendees to complete at cultural heritage sites and IPIM’s Portuguese-speaking Countries Food Products Exhibition Centre, inviting event attendees to workshops of making Macao local pastry. Such arrangements had enabled events participants to enjoy a unique convention trip.
