The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the concert “Great Symphonic Poems” on Friday, 2 February, at 8pm, at St. Dominic’s Church. Under the baton of OM’s Principal Conductor, Lu Jia, the Orchestra presents the work My Fatherland, a cycle of six symphonic poems by 19^th century composer Bedrich Smetana. Admission is free.

The University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) has signed an articulation agreement on a ‘3+2’ programme with the University of Lisbon (Instituto Superior Técnico, IST), a leading higher education institution in Portugal. According to the agreement, UM will select outstanding third-year students from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for direct admission to IST to study a two-year master’s degree programme.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year with residents, the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture of China of the PRC and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the PRC and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the MSAR Government, as well as the cooperation of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture, jointly present the dance drama Opera Warriors, in the “Happy Chinese New Year” series, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium on 3 March, at 8pm. To help young engineers and supervisors increase their professional knowledge about power systems and prepare them for future challenges and opportunities, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) has partnered up with the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) to organise a 12-session CEM Electric Power Engineering Training Course. This is the fourth time since 2010 that the two institutions have co-organised the course. Taught by experts and professors of electrical engineering from Macao, Hong Kong and mainland China, the course has graduated more than 80 young engineers and supervisors from CEM over the years.
