Collaborative marketing in Korea – MGTO will unveil mega roadshow in Seoul tomorrow (14 July) Macao’s travel trade navigates business opportunities in Korea

The “Experience Macao Unlimited” Mega Roadshow is ready to unfold in Seoul, Korea this Friday (14 July) for four days in a row. Leading a delegation of Macao’s travel trade to Korea, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted the “Macao•Korea Travel Trade Networking Seminar” in advance to promote diverse elements of “tourism +”. Industry delegates from both sides connected and navigated business opportunities in pursuit of mutual market growth.


Tourist price index (TPI) for the 2nd quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2023 rose by 19.47% year-on-year to 137.24. The increase was mainly attributable to rising hotel room rates and dearer prices of local food products. Among the various sections of goods and services, price index of Accommodation soared by 150.74% year-on-year, and the indices of Entertainment & Cultural Activities (+17.06%) and Clothing & Footwear (+7.07%) also increased.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – June 2023

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP215.7 billion (USD26.72 billion) at the end of June 2023. The reserves decreased by 0.9% from the revised value of MOP217.8 billion (USD26.98 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-June 2023 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 86.2% of pataca M2 at end-May 2023.


Over 3,700 takeaway establishments issued with registration certificates and 5 prosecuted for violating regulations

The “Registration System for Establishments of Takeaway Activities” has entered into force since 15 November 2021. Until 30 June this year, there are 3,776 registered takeaway establishments which are in operation in Macao, and prosecution has been initiated against 5 takeaway establishments for violations of the registration system. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) again reminds the sector that takeaway establishments must be issued with the registration certificate before opening for business, and the registration information must be displayed to the public. Consumers may also view the list of registered takeaway establishments on the website of Food Safety Information for choosing to patronise those that are regulated and for protecting their own interests.



IFTM delivers tourism training workshop for the tourism officials from the Portuguese-speaking Countries

The Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) successfully hosted a training workshop for the tourism officials from the Portuguese-speaking countries, as part of an initiative by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), on 3 and 4 July 2023 on the theme “Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism Planning, Food & Beverage and Events”.


Mortgage loans statistics – May 2023

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased month-on-month in May 2023. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs remained virtually unchanged when compared with the previous month.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is going to unveil an “Experience Macao Unlimited” Mega Roadshow in Seoul, Korea on Friday (14 July) for four days in a row, after hosting the “Macao•Korea Travel Trade Networking Seminar” this Thursday (13 July). A delegation of Macao’s travel trade will follow the Office’s lead to Korea for the Seminar, which together with the Roadshow, are set to familiarize Korean residents and tourism businesses with the destination’s fascinating offers and new elements of “tourism +”, in pursuit of international visitor markets.


UM students offer creative courses in Guizhou

Students from the University of Macau (UM) Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) participated in an eight-day service-learning programme at Congjiang No 4 Primary School in Guizhou province to offer local primary school students customised courses. To date, nearly 200 HFPJC service leaders have travelled to different provinces to provide creative courses to more than 20,000 primary and secondary school students.


GIF participated in the Egmont Group Plenary 2023

The 29th Egmont Group Plenary was held from 3 to 7 July 2023 in United Arab Emirates. The Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) attended the meeting as a member of the Egmont Group. The meetings aim at promoting the exchange of financial intelligence and cooperation among financial intelligence units in each member region, and strengthening the ability to detect and analyze emerging financial crimes.
