Government hails passing of amendments to Law on Safeguarding National Security

The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government hails the passing of a bill containing amendments to Law No.2/2009 – Law on Safeguarding National Security. The bill passed its second reading during this afternoon’s plenary session at the Legislative Assembly.


22nd Macao City Fringe Festival calls for proposals for programmes and performance venues

The 22nd Macao City Fringe Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held in January 2024. The call for proposals for programmes and performance venues is now open, and all local artistic and cultural associations, curators, producers, independent artists, higher education students, and those interested in artistic creation are welcome to submit their proposals. Proposals for all forms of performing arts programmes and artistic activities will be accepted, and applicants are encouraged to show an innovative spirit and risk-taking attitude, to break the barriers of traditional venues and to create works that highlight the characteristics and the cultural connotations of the city. All those responsible for local venues are also invited to submit proposals for performance venues so as to provide exhibition or performance spaces for the Fringe Festival. The call for submission is from today until 5pm on 23 June 2023.


UM holds 2nd Macao Humanities Roundtable

To facilities academic cooperation and exchanges among scholars and students in humanities, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the second Macao Humanities Roundtable, where professors and PhD students from the faculty and the University of Leeds presented their latest research findings. The event attracted approximately 200 faculty members and students in attendance.

In his opening speech, Li Defeng, associate dean of the FAH, said that under the pressure of the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in today's society, research in humanities has become even more indispensable as it allows people to understand the complex changes and the new landscape that AI has brought about socially and culturally. Quoting the famous philosopher Aristotle, ‘Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work’, Prof Li expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the speakers for their hard work and to the students and faculty members for their participation.


Director of Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, Adriano Marques Ho, and his Delegation Visited Macao Polytechnic University to Strengthen Cooperation

The Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), Adriano Marques Ho, and his delegation recently visited the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and were warmly welcomed by the Rector of the University, Im Sio Kei. Both parties look forward to strengthening cooperation in academic collaboration and professional training in the gaming industry and jointly promoting the sustainable and healthy development of the integrated tourism and entertainment industry.

The 14th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) will be held from 1 to 2 June at the Venetian Macao Cotai Expo. Co-organised by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), the Forum serves as a platform for representatives of the global infrastructure industry to deepen their exchanges.


Visitor arrivals for April 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,274,050 in April 2023, representing an upsurge of 274.7% year-on-year and a rise of 16.2% month-on-month. Overnight visitors (1,176,456) and same-day visitors (1,097,594) soared by 550.2% and 157.7% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors increased by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.2 days; the duration for same-day visitors (0.3 day) went up by 0.2 day while that for overnight visitors (2.2 days) dropped by 1.4 days.

The "14th Macao Fashion Illustration Contest" of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) is now open for entries. Fashion illustration enthusiasts are welcome to participate the contest. The deadline for entry submission is June 28. International banking statistics – March 2023

According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the proportion of international business in the local banking sectorrosein thefirstquarter of 2023. At end-March2023, the share of international assets in total banking assetsincreased to85.6% from85.4% at end-December2022, while the share of international liabilities in total banking liabilitiesroseto83.4% from81.9%.
